Eight Little Blocks

If you give a quilter a box of scraps . . . she’s going to find eight little blocks. She will stop in the middle of cleaning up those scraps (well, actually remnants) and chat with the little squirrel holding those eight little blocks. She will play with arranging those blocks and sew them together, then add a border. As long as she’s at it, she will add batting and backing and quilt them. Might as well bind it too.

Eight Little Blocks - Made a little table runner with eight little half square triangles, left over blocks from another project - piecefulthoughts.com

The HSTs finish at 4.5″. The fabric for the border, backing and binding is a batik from that remnant stash. I quilted an orange peel design with my walking foot using 50 wt Aurifil Very Dark Eggplant (#1240). The little runner measures 14″ x 23″.

Photos outside washed out the color of the quilt, but show the quilting a little better.

I did get that stack of remnants all tidied up and tucked away, but this little runner was a fun diversion during the tedious task of quilt room clean up.

Barn Quilt BOM Quilt Along

Sherry from Powered by Quilting is hosting a block of the month quilt along featuring barn quilt designs. Have you seen it? You can get the quilt pattern and find all the information here. I’m joining in, but not sure whether I’m making the whole quilt or just a mini. Join us! The more the merrier!

How about you? What’s been happening in your sewing room?

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Beth at Cooking Up Quilts.

A cute little table runner! I’m impressed that you cleaned up while playing. I get immersed and to heck with the cleaning.

That’s a cute little diversion there! Sometimes I quilt in a mess and sometimes I just have to clean up first. Looks like you did a bit of both.

I still think you should have come clean up my messes too!! Fun to be able to clean and still make a cute little project;)

I’ve just been trying to get smaller projects done and out of the way – I had way too many started last year and trying to clear some out!

Please do not tempt me with another quilt-along. Trying not to join in every quilt-along that comes-along is like trying to lose weight, only worse. I like your little scrap blocks. Yesterday as I was cutting the corners off yet another group of blocks and stashing them in a zip-lock bag for future use, it occurred to me that it’s a perfect take-along project for our next outing with the fifth wheel. I must have hundreds of those little bonus triangles. I can take them along and start sewing them into pinwheels. Might actually be kind of fun.

That is a great use of the HST’s – love the colors and even more, love your rendition of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Someone should write that up as a book (IF You Give a Quilter Some Scraps) – you have a great start on it.

That’s a sweet little runner! “If you give a quilter scraps, there’s no telling what she’ll do. She might, of course, say, “thanks!”, but end up cursing you. More likely though, she’ll widely smile, and twist and turn those treasures, until with effort, skill, and time, she’ll make a quilt for pleasure.” There. That’s a start for your story.

Hi Wendy! You had me at eight little blocks . . . it sounds like it should be set to a tune or something. Love how these eight little blocks got purposed into a fabulous project. Boy, the outside photo sure did wash out the colors! Your quilting looks great. ~smile~ Roseanne

Oh, that is a sweet little piece, Wendy! I love the colors in it, and your quilting is great. Did you do those curves FMQ or with your walking foot? I love making little things like that, too!

well put… I can relate so well. I just love a bag of scraps as a gift!
I enjoyed every post I read today, so nice to meet you. I’ve also always been a creative soul. I was stunned with all those cherries too… a richness of cherries! I’ve never seen them on a tree, but I’ve eaten many of them. LeeAnna
