Pieceful Friday

Is it just me, or did this week fly by? It’s Pieceful Friday in my sewing room. Here’s a little peek at a few things I worked on this week.

Sketching Quilt Designs

Sandra at MMM!Quilts is hosting the 30 Quilt Designs Challenge once again this year. We’ve switched to a closed Facebook group, so you won’t be able to follow along on Instagram like last year. However, I can show you some of my designs here on my blog from time to time, or you can feel free to join us and have some fun sketching up designs. If you want to join, draw up a design and email it to Sandra. She’ll get you in the group and we’ll have a good time encouraging each other as we play with design.

Here’s the first design I submitted.

I find it very relaxing to sketch out quilt designs. Once i learn my EQ program, I can transfer some of them. Don’t hold your breath though; I’m going slow at learning the program 🙂

Pattern Testing

I’ve also been doing some pattern testing. Cindy at Stitchin’ at Home said i could give you a sneak peek. Watch her site for the release — it’s a very fun pattern!

Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge

Connie and I stitched the quilt tops together for the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project. Our quilt group made blocks, and we have enough for two good-sized twin quilts. We are participating in the Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge hosted by Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

The Perkiomen Valley block has so many ways it can be arranged. We chose this design because it went really fast sewing them together. We made large 24″ four-patch blocks, then sewed them into rows. You can find the download for that pattern at From My Carolina Home in Carole’s information on the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project. There is still a need for quilts for this cause, and you can find more information on Carole’s site.

A Teensy Bit of Sewing

I had planned to quilt the Purple Sage mini this afternoon, but when I got home I sat down in my chair and took a nap — for two hours!! So it didn’t get done, but I hope to work on it this weekend. I still wanted to get a teensy bit of sewing done. I did, literally.

If you follow Kitty Wilkin (@nightquilter) on Instagram, you’ve seen her 100 Days of Sewing Smaller blocks, which she has made into a pattern called Sew Tiny Sampler. Each of the blocks finish at 1-1/4 inches. I had to make one! My little teensy block is a little wobbly, but oh so fun. It is made from scraps of Alison Glass fabric and Moda Grunge. I backed this little one with some fusible. I’m not sure what it will become yet. Next I’ll try the churn dash!

I came across this interesting art quilt challenge as I was reading blogs this week. I am fascinated with this idea, and tempted to make one.

That’s pretty much it for what’s been happening in my sewing room this week. What has been a highlight for you in your quilting projects this week? I’d enjoy hearing about it!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Wendy

My goodness, Wendy, that’s by far the smallest block I’ve ever seen. Did you hand sew it? It’s absolutely gorgeous! It would be so sweet in a little doll quilt.

Eeek that is a very teeny tiny block, but oh so sweet! Sneak peek looks intriguing. Hope you find more time to sew this weekend.

Hi Wendy! Yowza that is one SMALL block. Not for me but I am thrilled that you like to do it. It sure is a pretty block. Love your charity quilt, and even more the sneak peek. Those fabrics!! How fun is that – I look forward to seeing the pattern release. Finally, I’m sorry I can’t see all the fun block designs as in the past although I certainly understand why. Enjoy your weekend! ~smile~ Roseanne

Thanks, Roseanne! You follow enough of the designers in the group, so you’ll likely see peeks on our posts. Enjoy you’re day!

Hi Wendy, your teeny block is sew cute! I’m so impressed, love the colors in your sneak peek and your design sketch. I think the sketch would be a great paper piecing project. Have a great weekend!

You’re sharing lots of fun things today! I like the yellow and orange in your quilt design. I’ve been tempted to join in with Sandra’s design challenge, but wasn’t sure I would have enough ideas to keep up with it! Love the sneak peak of the green design – that is beautiful! I’ll look forward to seeing what happens with that.

Your first design there reminds me a bit of a design I came up with in the first edition of Sandra’s 30 designs. I’ve been looking at that design lately and thinking that I might want to make it into a quilt. I’ve also been thinking of getting back to designing maybe in the fall when some time will free up for me.

Love your rendition of Cindy’s pattern and I just might have to get me that pattern….for the fall of course.

Totally speechless on that teeny-weeny block! It’s adorable. Thanks for the plug for the design challenge; hope we get some more in our little group; it’s such an enriching experience isn’t it? Just love the Perkiomen Valley quilt top, jewel tones, my fave!

  • Kathleen Mccormick

You got to the teeny tiny blocks!!! You are awesome. I love it and do want to try. Your 30 designs will be fun to watch. I have a few designing days coming up – so that’s a good thing.

I have always liked the look of quilts with the Perkiomen Valley block – probably because I have such a thing for basic patchwork. that is a great quilt for H2H. Love the greens in the pattern testing project and oh my gosh Wendy, that tiny block is just adorable. Maybe a pin cushion? Or a little coaster? It is so cool.
