Pieceful Monday

It’s Pieceful Monday once again, so let me show you what I’ve been up to. I’ve been having fun with some purple batiks, making a mini quilt, and getting down and dusty with my machine.

Instagram #springintocolour2017 Photo Challenge

Are you participating in #springintocolour2017 Photo Challenge with Leanne from Devoted Quilter on Instagram? There is still time to get in on the fun! Leanne started this photo challenge to bring a little color into our dreary end-of-winter-not-quite-spring days. Each day prompts us to share a picture of a certain color. Sunday’s color was purple, so I pulled out some of my purple batiks to snap a quick picture of them. I couldn’t seem to get a good shot of them just stacked up, so I decided to play with them a bit. I have this little block waiting for me to decide what I’m going to do with it. It could be a mug mat, or it could be part of a mini quilt, or . . . hmmm.

Looking for a new quilt book?

Back in February, I got a fun email from Bernie at Needle and Foot letting me know that I had won the book I Love PreCut Quilts! by Tricia Maloney. (Thanks again, Bernie!) I have been itching to try one of the patterns in the book, and last night was the night.

I’ve had this little half jelly roll of Robert Kaufman fabric sitting on my shelf. I got it in a Sew Sampler box.

It has been so dreary and overcast here lately, I really wanted to make something with bright, cheerful colors. I decided to make the Harmony Table Runner from the book. Rather than make it the full size, I only made three blocks for a shorter mini runner. It’s still a good size, approximately 24″ from left to right. I also wanted to keep some of the jelly roll strips for the binding.

This is such a fast, fun little quilt. The directions are clear and easy to follow. This pattern is also very versatile. I think it could be really fun in batiks. Modern fabrics could give it a whole different look. There are so many possibilities for this pattern. The Kaufman fabric I used was incredibly lightweight and pressed so nicely. I’m not able to finish the quilt yet as I don’t have backing material. The directions suggest an envelope finish, sewing the quilt top with batting and backing right sides together, then turning it and quilting. However, I’m going to do a traditional quilt sandwich with binding.

Pieceful Monday Prompt – Machine Check Up

So my little machine was humming along last night. No, wait, it was going clack, clack, clack — a sure sign it needed cleaning. Yup, it was a little dusty in there!

It’s amazing that all that dust came from the bobbin case.

So I’m giving you a little nudge if you haven’t cleaned your machine lately. Start your sewing week off with a clean machine!

Pretty stuffs! Lucky you on your book win and your mini runner is looking good. I had to clean my machine last night as well, the bobbin and top thread kept getting annoyingly tangled so I had to get in there to see what was up and apparently, cleaning and re threading was all the remedy I needed.

I cleaned mine a week ago and I could definitely top your lint pile!! OMG it was the worse that I have ever let it get. Makes one really wonder what is down in that we can’t reach!! So do you have a quilt in the show? Love the purple block and your runner is looking springy! See ya tomorrow?

Hint taken….lol! Just cleaned and oiled my little workhorse! It’s so easy for me to sew along and not even think of stopping to oil and clean my machine…and it’s amazing the difference in the sound the machine makes when clean and lubricated.
