Pieceful Monday

It’s Pieceful Monday once again. This weekend was spent with my family, so there was little time spent in my quilt cave, but it was a lovely, peaceful weekend full of conversation, food and naps.

So what’s up for this Pieceful Monday? Well, it will be a little different than last week, and certainly less productive. We are taking a road trip later this week, so I’ll be taking care of things around here and packing. However, I do hope to do some piecing today while I’m making lists of what to bring along.

I could bring my sewing machine along on this trip, and I’m really tempted. It’s good for me to take a break and do something different, so I’ll stay with handwork for this trip. There will be much to see and fun places to go. More about where we are headed in Wednesday’s post.

Here’s what I’ve been working on lately.

Pieceful Monday - Spring Paws (c) piecefulthoughts.com

This fabric came to me through one of the Sew Sampler boxes from The Fat Quarter Shop. I thought it was a layer cake rolled up, but it turned out to be fat eighths. The fabric line is Dixie by Alison Harris for Cluck Cluck Sew. One of my all-time favorite blocks is the Bear Paw, so I just started making them. I have no plan, I’ll just make these blocks until I have no more fabric, then go from there. I’ve given them the name of Spring Paws.

What sewing projects are coming along on my trip? Well, I’m not completely sure yet, but here’s a few I’m considering.

  • Madder Quilt – this little quilt top needs to be finished, and I could hand quilt it while on this trip.
  • Wool Project – I enjoy stitching wool projects, especially when traveling.
  • EPP – I decided to give English Paper Piecing a try. This is definitely going along, I just have to choose fabric and get some prep work done. Any recommendations on tutorials would be welcome!
  • Mug Mats – I may do a few of these and have them ready for binding. It would be an easy and transportable project.
Elephant Quilt Information

There were many of you who loved the Elephant Quilt. If you would like the pattern, it’s available at Laundry Basket Quilts. I would encourage you to purchase the stencil as well; it makes tracing the elephants so much easier. It is a really fun project to make.
