Quilters’ Christmas Party

Last night was our Quilters’ Christmas Party for our quilt group. I was prepped and ready to go early in the day. My present was wrapped, all pretty and bright.

I have used that ribbon for gifts, for handles on little sewn bins, all kinds of projects — it’s been really fun. I’m almost out, so I’ll have to see if I can find more on my next trip to World Market. I think it’s just right for a quilt group gift exchange!

Are you curious about what’s in that package? Each year one of our quilt members brings a story about Mr. and Mrs. Wright, who wander through her story, going left and right. Of course, our gifts go right and left along with the story, so you never know who your gift will end up with. It’s always a fun time.

Our gift can be either handmade or purchased, with a value limit of $15. I made this little fabric bin and tucked in some goodies, along with the scraps of fabric that I used for the bin. I thought the fabric was too cute not to share!

That cute little green button box was a recent flash sale at the Fat Quarter Shop. I thought it was too cute to pass up. Inside are a few Bobbini bobbin holders. I hope the recipient likes it!

This year, we are having a Christmas block drawing. To participate, we are to bring a 12-1/2″ (unfinished) block with a Christmas theme. The background should be white, and the prints should be red and green. All the block participants will be entered in a drawing to win the blocks. Here’s the block I made.

The pattern is from the Vintage Christmas book by Lori Holt. If you are looking for a fun book of Christmas patterns, this one might be it. The patterns can be made to finish either at 6″ or 12″. Some of the patterns have quite a few pieces, but the construction is easy and straightforward. All of the fabrics I used are from my stash.

We always have a time of Show & Tell, so I’m going to bring my Peppermint Path table runner (that name came to me, just now).

You can read more about this runner here. The pattern can be found in Issue 26 of Make Modern magazine and was designed by a friend from our quilt group, so I think it will be fun for her to see.

Of course, we bring food; it wouldn’t be a party without it. I am bringing a salad, combining two salad kits (sans dressing), adding some rotisserie chicken, dried tart cherries, and tossing it all with ranch dressing. I got home last night and realized I hadn’t taken a photo.

Here’s my gift that I received in the gift exchange.

Isn’t that cute? If I’m going to use it for holiday baking, I’d better get sewing!

We had a fun evening, and now I’m ready to get my house decorated for Christmas. That will be my task for today.

Happy Friday, my quilty friends!

Wendy

Hi Wendy! I’ll bet your person who received your basket was thrilled. Who can’t use a cute basket especially when it’s filled with fun, useful sewing items that you may not buy yourself. How did the salad go over? And did you win the blocks? Love the stocking block – it’s very cute. Maybe we’ll get to see the quilt from all the blocks sometime. ~smile~ Roseanne

that sounds like fun – and your salad sounds delicious. Fat Quarter Shop has lots of fun little items for a party like this. The one thing I miss about not going to a quilt group is show and tell!

    Hi Wendy,
I’m sure the person that recieved your gift was thrilled! As far as I know, you can’t have too many little baskets! They are SEW handy. And all the other treasures that you included – so fun!
Hope you get to sew your apron today!
    Happy Quilting! 🙂

What a fun gift – perfect for a quilty friend! I love the ribbon! I was just at World Market yesterday, but I didn’t know they had that. My quilt group has our party next week, and I’ve been finishing up my gift for it this week. Have fun decorating today! I’m in the midst of doing that too.

I’m sitting here really hungry after a day of babysitting and that chicken salad sounds scrumptious. I really love the table runner and I can’t wait to see you in your new apron!

  • Needle and Foot

I agree with Lisa, that salad sounds really good and easy! What a fun party – cute block and thoughtful gift. Happy Holidays Wendy!! Hoping to get out a few decorations soon. Julia asked me to wait on the tree till she gets home next weekend so not going to put that up yet.

Sounds like a fun party! I hope whoever received your gift loved it. I’ve done that “left, right” game before, though the time I did it, someone added tons of lefts and rights to the original Night Before Christmas poem. It was funny.
