Sunshine and Shadows

Sunshine and shadows has been a bit of a theme here, weatherwise. We’ve had more days of rain lately than we prefer, but the sun does peek out of the shadows of clouds now and then.

On one of the gloomier days, I pulled out my little roll of Pepper & Flax fat eighths that I received in May’s Sew Sampler box and made this little quilt, Sunshine and Shadows. The fabric line is designed by Corey Yoder for Moda and it is lovely.

I went back to the Squiggles pattern to make the blocks for this little runner.  Putting the top together went quickly. Of course, I had to make a quick run to my local quilt shop for backing and binding. Okay, maybe it wasn’t that quick, and maybe I didn’t just come home with backing and binding.

I let the runner simmer for a few days while I thought about the quilting. Ideas brewed while I went to the quilt show. I finished it on Monday. So, it qualifies as a UFO I think, right?!

Two matching Aurifil threads were also in the Sew Sampler box, so I was ready to go with quilting. I decided to use the yellow thread (Butter #2130). It is a soft, dreamy yellow that matches the fabrics perfectly.

I decided to straight line quilt, working my way around the “O” shapes.

For the borders, I just did a couple of long straight lines.

The backing is the same fabric as the borders, a bright, lively yellow.  The binding is a grey fabric from the same line.

This little lovely runner won’t be staying with me. It will be going to its new home this weekend.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
