Whirlwind Wednesday

Whirlwind Wednesday seemed an appropriate title for this post, since we’ve been packing in so much during our daughter’s visit. I thought I’d share a few of the highlights with you.

Whirlwind Wednesday - Cherry Chutney - piecefulthoughts.com

I haven’t canned in years, but we ordered cherries this year, 2 lugs of the dark cherries and 1 of the Rainier, and they happened to come in just when Molly was home. She and I made 4 pints of Cherry Chutney, a recipe shared by Barbara of Cat Patches. Barbara has a delightful blog, where she shares little tidbits of her day, travels, cooking, gardens, beautiful kitties and, of course, quilting.  Anyway, I was delighted that the chutney turned out well. Those pints aren’t going to last long!

It’s family tradition to sneak in at least one Twins game. The game wasn’t so golden, but the city view at sundown sure was!

Our next adventure was a weekend stay at a cabin on the Wisconsin side of Lake Superior. We love the views from the shore. This photo and the following photos of the cabin stay were taken by Molly.

We enjoyed swimming and kayaking (some of us), and each evening we had dinner on the shore. The lake and her beauty did not disappoint.

Both of these sunset photos are unfiltered. Absolutely beautiful!

We had to tear ourselves away from the lake for a bit, so we went to the Farmer’s Market in Bayfield, Wisconsin on Saturday morning. I got just a little distracted taking pictures of the beautiful flowers along the way.

Aren’t they pretty?

And before we knew it, our stay was done and it was time to go home. We took a quick photo before we left, and it actually turned out pretty well. It should be noted that I am not as tall as I look in the photo. I must be standing on a higher patch of ground. I am the shortest one in the family now!

Thought you’d like to see all of us. I love these people!

Did I get any quilting done? Not a stitch!

Whirlwind Wednesday - Don't Miss this Hop - piecefulthoughts.com

However, I hope you come back on Friday, because it is my day for the 12 Days of Christmas in July Blog Hop hosted by Sarah over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Here are a few reasons why you should follow the Hop

  • There are some really fun projects popping up that will help you get ready for Christmas early.
  • Sarah is also hosting a quilt along for the Rejoice quilt. It’s a beauty, and there’s still time to start on it and finish it before the holidays!
  • Giveaways! Not only are the wonderful sponsors for the blog giving away great prizes, but many of the bloggers have giveaways too, so don’t miss it.

So now it’s time for me to get some sewing done. I’m itching to get back to my sewing room and create something. Besides, it will chase away a little of those mama blues I’m feeling today.

I did keep up on your blogs while I was gone. I can’t go too many days without seeing what you are all up to! You’ve been busy, so I need to catch up!

Enjoy your day!

Wendy

Wow! Beautiful pictures! And Cherries! I was just in Door County, WI and it was prime cherry picking time. I’ve never seen so many cherries! I like strawberries and raspberries better. But I did try a few different cherry things. Great to see your whole family and thanks for sharing your trip.

Oh wow, such beautiful pictures! Love seeing you all together. Maybe they were all standing on their tippy toes, LOL. I have not canned in years either and that was done cuz DH wanted to. Me not so much, I did too much as a kid helping mom.

don’t you just love Bayfield! I love that area of Wisconsin and over to Ashland – to Duluth but the mosquitoes I can do without. The cherry jam sounds wonderful.

my mom grew up in Ashland but I never spent much time in that area until we took our first visit 5 years ago and then went back this year. Mom was not close to her mother so we never spent time there when I was a child

Gorgeous sunsets over the water just never get old, do they? Lake Superior is beautiful and I hope we make it there someday. Your family looks so happy and relaxed! I’m glad you had such a wonderful time together 🙂

Hi Wendy! What a fun photo of all of you that you shared today. YUM – your cherry chutney looks delicious. I’m glad you had such good times with your daughter and sil. And those lake photos – so gorgeous. ~smile~ Roseanne

I am really enjoying the vacation posts that have popped up lately. It is so nice to see what people are up to with their family and how summer is being enjoyed. That family picture is adorable. Sometimes the quick selfie turns out to be the best (and for me 9 out of 10 selfies are not so great, haha. The photos are gorgeous. So nice to hear you have had a great time with your daughter.
Love the cherry chutney idea but the thought of pitting all of those cherries doesn’t sound so fun. 😉

Thanks, Bernie! Barbara gives a great tip on how to easily put cherries by steaming them first. Really slick (no pun intended)!

We had a lovely time together. Sounds like you and Mike enjoyed your retreat too! Hope you are feeling better today!

The views of the lake are just breath taking. I can’t even imagine them in person. Looks like a great visit was had by all! I know what you mean about always being the shortest one 🙂

  • Kathleen McCormick

What a wonderful time! I will be checking out that recipe, although, I do not really can either, but you never know. I don’t blame you for not getting a thing done. Everyone looks so happy – you’ll get back to your sewing this week.

Love seeing the four of you all smiles! And oh!!!!! Those photos of another of our Great Lakes—inland oceans I think they’re aka. I’m lucky enough to have seen them all, not as much time on Lake Huron but hope to rectify that this summer with a trip up there. Was just thinking this am I need to grab some Ontario cherries before they’re gone…

Your weekend sounds so enjoyable, and the pics you shared are breathtaking. Love your group picture! And the cherry chutney sounds so good – I like using it on grilled chicken.
