Work in Progress Wednesday

This week so far, I’ve made some progress on the Frivols quilt. If I keep going, I might have the top done by Friday.

Tuesday I spent some time looking for the perfect backing for the wedding quilt. I had almost decided on this Michael Miller fabric the last time I was at the store, so I was delighted when I returned and it was still there. It was bride-approved, so home it came with me. Today I hand it over to Turnberry Lane to let Connie work her magic. I can’t wait to see the finished product!

I’m going to make a couple more of the pouches I’ve done lately, because they are just so much fun to make. And while I was picking up the backing fabric, I picked up more zippers in all sorts of colors, so I have plenty to choose from. I think I enjoy making the pouch because I can get it done, start to finish, in a day. I’m somewhat frustrated with my ability to quilt my tops lately. So I think the pouches are a cute way for me to avoid learning how to free motion quilt. Haha.

A while ago, our quilt group hosted a Pat Speth workshop. I enjoyed learning her method, and chose to make Mt. Hood from her Nickel Quilts book. I’m hoping to get enough blocks put together to make a lap quilt. I need to get back to this project, so I may stitch a few of these blocks together today.

And see this little New York Beauty? It’s a wonky little block I made when experimenting with an idea for a mug rug. New York Beauty blocks and quilts are my very favorites. I have a pattern for a foundation pieced mini New York Beauty, so I may dig that out and try a fun scrappy design with it.
