30 Days of Improv QAL

Rather at the last minute, I decided to join in the 30 Days of Improv QAL hosted by Shannon Fraser Designs and Broadcloth Studio. This is the first time I’ve joined in, and I’m enjoying creating improv blocks around each week’s theme.

Jumping in at the last minute meant I didn’t have fabrics chosen, so I went to my fabric stash and pulled three fabrics I thought worked well together:

  • Kona Pickle
  • Kona Glacier
  • Kona Silver

Fabrics chosen, I got busy and created a few blocks. Here is my group for Week 1 – Stripes.

I don’t use a ruler when I make improv blocks, other than to square them up. I also don’t usually square up my blocks until they’ve all been made, but this time around I’m squaring them up each week. My blocks are 5-1/2″ unfinished. (The photo above shows the blocks before they are squared.)

Next up was Week 2:

Last week’s prompt was L-Shapes. This was more fun than I expected, and more L-shapes appeared in the blocks than I noticed at first.

This week, we are working with triangles. Here are my blocks so far this week, starting with Monday.

Tuesday’s blocks were playing with tiny triangles. I had fun using up bits and schnibbles from my previous blocks to make the tiny triangles.

I have to admit, I have made improv triangle blocks before in another quilt along. It is still one of my favorite quilts. These are addictive and fun to make! I’m looking forward to making more triangles tomorrow, and I’ll post more progress soon!

Oh, and remember that little mini I made last week? I found a spot for it in my quilt room, for now.

The little tin with the thread bobbins were gifts from my daughter. The little black cat pincushion was also a gift.

What about you? Are you sewing along with the 30 Days of Improv? Thanks for stopping by!

Wendy
