Autumn Flight

Autumn Flight is my version of Robin Pickens’ Wind Drifter pattern. I came across the pattern back in July when I stopped at a quilt shop. I brought it home, and it became a Drop Everything and Make It (DrEAMi) project that I’ve been eager to share on one of Sandra’s linky parties over at MMMQuilts. I’m so glad that day has finally come!

The quilt shop sample was done in blue and green batiks; it was so pretty I almost bought the kit. I opted to work from my stash and see what I could come up with. I had a fat-eighth bundle of Elizabeth Hartman’s Adventure line, just what I needed for this project. But what about the background? The only color I had enough of and that coordinated was chocolate brown. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, not having ever used brown as a background, but I was pleasantly surprised!

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a lemur in a fall quilt before, but I think it adds a fun little surprise, don’t you? Admittedly, until I looked at them closer, I thought they were raccoons! Nevertheless, the colors lent themselves well to a fall quilt, and they pop against the dark brown.

I handed this off to Connie to quilt and she did her usual amazing work.

I like the leaf design in the larger arrows, along with the swirls in the background. Here’s another view:

My finished size of this wall quilt is 33″ square. The pattern also offers a 65″ square version.

My last DrEAMi project was all about cats, and you can see that one here.  Autumn Flight will be remembered as one of my favorite DrEAMi projects of 2022.
