Beothuk Flimsy

My Beothuk Flimsy is done, and that’s about all i’ve accomplished over the last week. Last Wednesday evening, the lives of close friends of ours were irrevocably changed when they lost their oldest son. Walking with friends during both the joys and sorrows of life is an honor and a privilege. I’ve thought about that quite a bit over the past week.

So not much was going on in my quilt room. My sewing mojo is slowly coming back. It was nice to have Beothuk to work on because I didn’t have to think, just sew.

The pink star is so incredibly fun. The pink is so bright and joyful, and adds a playfulness to the quilt top.

Right next to that bright pink star, is the green star. The fabric is a deep, rich mixture of greens, navy and golds. The photo doesn’t show it well, but it really compliments the bright blue. Such a pretty combination!

For the QAL, I used the bundle and extension from Bernie’s shop at Needle & Foot. The fabrics are just lovely, and I have extra fabric! I cannot wait to create something fun with the remnants.

And here is the finished flimsy. Now I’m just waiting for some quilting inspiration, then I’ll get started on the finish!

When finished, this quilt top makes the piecing look complicated, doesn’t it? It isn’t, actually. It’s a very simple easy design, and the quilt goes together so well. Sandra did a great job with the instructions, especially since there were different versions for the QAL depending on the fabric used. Thank you, Sandra, for sharing this with us!

What’s Coming Up?

This little fabric bundle will be coming up in June. I’ve got a plan, and I think it’s going to be very cute and fun!

I have a quiet weekend ahead, so I’m hoping to spend time in my quilt room. Will I work on schedule projects, or chase a squirrel? Whichever, it’s going to be fun!

Linking up today with Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, and Tish at The Madd Quilter.

What’s on your design wall this weekend?

I was just thinking I didn’t hear from you yesterday, I hoped that meant you were sewing;) Your flimsy is awesome and what cute fabrics you are going to work with next.

it is so sad when a child dies, I do feel for your friends – my daughter has a friend that recently lost her child due to drowning and it was awful for all – I hope you get your mojo back now – it will be sad for awhile for sure

Wendy, I’m so sorry to hear about your friends’ son. That has to be the absolute hardest thing in life. Your Beothuk Star flimsy is lovely! That pink star just sparkles! I have two of the four stars finished, and I agree with you – once all those HSTs were made and I had the layout figured out, the piecing has gone quickly! It’s fun to see the design emerge as the blocks come together.

Your Beothuk looks wonderful! I really need to get cracking on mine. I’m sorry to hear about your friends’ loss. They are lucky to have you nearby to support them.

Hi Wendy. A loss like that shakes everyone to the quick. It not only is the wrong order of things, and something that as a parent you should never have to face, but it also but for the grace of God could be you. {{Hugs}} I am so sorry for all of you. They are blessed to have such strong good friends to help them through this tragedy. Sewing, while it’s a nice diversion at times, feels so inadequate as well. Who cares about fabric and sewing and quilting when your friends are hurting so much, as well as your own heart. I applaud you for being able to work on Beothuk! It’s a beauty and now you’re all set for the linky party on the 15th. Your next project looks beautiful – those fabrics are fun. Aww, just a few more {{hugs}} for all of you. ~smile~ Roseanne

Your Beothuk looks great. I love the design and it looks stunning in those fabrics.
I’m very sorry to hear about your friends’ loss. I will keep all of you in my thoughts. Hugs x

Oh Wendy, I am so sorry to hear about your friends’ son. It is so hard to loose someone young. I am sure you were a blessing to them and will be. It is a long haul (talked to the brother today whose son died in Sept). Now, that quilt is looking great. I think I will post my flimsy tomorrow. Has a little clean up, but it might be the right post before the machine arrives. I have a little furniture to put in place and may do some sewing in another room, while the boring part of the assembly is happening.

Oh Wendy, this is heartbreaking news. I am sending best wishes and healing vibes. I feel like sewing and quilting can be a refuge and a source of comfort. The Beothuk flimsy is beautiful and I love your new hair-do.

I love the new look of your blog, and oh I love seeing a quilt I designed i EQ come to life in fabric 🙂 Thank YOU so much for purchasing the kit from Bernie and for making it; the trust factor is huge and I thank you for you kind remarks about my design. Sending more hugs your way; dabbling along quietly in fabric really does soothe the soul.

You used these fabrics well! The quilt top is so pretty.
I have been thinking of your friend. Hoping the family is hanging on during this tragedy. So painful I am sure.

It seems almost frivolous to say how much I like your quilt, when you think of what your good friends must be going through. To lose a child, at any stage of their life, must be the most horrendous thing ever. Totally averse to the rightful passage of life. I am sure they will be glad of your support
