Blocks and Bag Fun

It was all about blocks and bag fun this weekend. Once I finished the bindings on two queen charity quilts, I promised myself I could have some fun.

2019 Monthly Color Challenge

I’m thoroughly enjoying this challenge hosted by Jen at Patterns by Jen. It has a nice easy pace, uses fabrics from your stash, and the blocks are simple and go together quickly. The color for June is orange, and you know how much I love orange!

The values of my medium and dark fabrics is a little too close, but you can see the difference much better when looking at the actual block rather than a photo. For all the orange fabric I have, it was difficult to find three that went together well.

My design wall was empty, so I pulled out all the blocks I’ve done so far and put them up. It has brightened up my quilt room and makes me smile.

Each block is 12.5 inches, so my little design wall is full for now.

Minnesota Quilters Mystery Quilt

I’ve completed the next set of clues for the Minnesota Quilters Mystery Quilt. This quilt was designed by Suzy Webster.

I’m using Art Gallery Fabrics from Pat Bravo’s Indigo and Legendary lines. I can’t wait to see how this turns out!

A Little Pleated Bag

My last little bit of fun for the weekend was stitching up this bag from s.o.t.a.k. handmade‘s new book, That Handmade Touch.

Appearances can be deceiving. I had a few hiccups with this project, but the photo makes it look pretty good. It finishes at approximately 4 x 8 inches. It’s such an easy pattern to make and really doesn’t take long at all. I’ll be making a few more of these.

The Minnesota Quilt Show is just a little over a week away, and this year I’ll be taking two classes from Carole Lyles Shaw. I am really looking forward to it. This week I need to pull my fabrics together and start getting organized for the classes.

This month I also have a challenge quilt to complete for our quilt group. The top needs borders, then quilting it will be next.

I also need to work on that project using those fun Food Truck fabrics I showed you in my last post.

It’s going to be a busy week! What about you — what are you working on this week?

Linking up today with Beth at Cooking Up Quilts.

Good Morning! You updated your profile picture! Very nice – it looks like your hair is shorter. LOVE your orange block. I haven’t done anything more that print out the instructions . . . but that’s okay. The MN mystery fabrics look so pretty – I love the print on the gray fabric. Everything looks so nice together – can’t wait to see where this mystery goes. And finally, your bag looks so pretty as well – I love those fabrics you chose. I know you’ll enjoy the classes you are taking next week. ~smile~ Roseanne

Those monthly color challenge blocks are full of pretty color! I’d want them up on my design wall, too. And what a fun zipper pouch – sotak handmade has the best pouch ideas! I’m still working on sewing my Beothuk blocks together – in between squirrels! 🙂

Love all your blocks on your design wall, fun! What was the challenge you had in making the little bag, it’s cute! So you have both days of all day classes then? You have lots going on and lots to look forward to!

I love your orange block! I have to pick out fabrics when I am in MA later this week. (I really need a list of what I need to bring back). The MN mystery looks great – Suzy Webster’s book is waiting for me at home – it will be fun to see what she designed. Carol’s class should be great – she was an ambassador last year – and I really like her style. PS your fabrics are fine, don’t worry it too much!
