Busy Bee

We have been busy bees this week at Pieceful Thoughts, but very little busyness had to do with sewing. You might notice that some of the buzz around here is the new look to my blog. I asked Tracie (Joyfully Tracie) if she would help me navigate the switch to a new theme, and she was happy to. Tracie and I have known each other for years, and she’s one of my closest and dearest friends. So I was comfortable asking her for help. She’s incredibly patient! Thanks so much, Tracie – next time we’ll just meet up over coffee rather than computers!

A lot of my time has been spent outdoors, getting our flowers planted and pulling weeds. Remember that I was worrying a bit about our hibiscus a few weeks ago? Well, I’m happy to report that it is growing! I didn’t kill it – yippee!

Nothing too pretty to look at yet in the midst of all that mulch, but it’s growing so fast. I’m looking forward to seeing the flowers!

Speaking of growing fast, my blocks for the Fab Farm Sew Along are buzzing right along. With each block, I think “Oh I like this one best!” but then the next one comes along and I say the same thing. This little bee block, however, is definitely a favorite. At 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ it’s just a tiny block, but it is really fun to put together. I actually made a small error in my cutting of the wings, but I made it work because I wasn’t in the mood to unpick. I’m not even going to tell you what I messed up.

This little block didn’t take long from start to finish. There were very few pieces to cut, and the construction went quickly. I think it would be fun to make a few more busy bee blocks!

Here are all of my Fab Farm blocks so far – a happy looking group!

It won’t be long before all the blocks are done. Coming up next – the pig block! I can’t wait!

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you like the new look of my site. I’ll be back soon with more blocks to share from my other quilting projects.

My first thought was how nice your blog looks. I always thought it looked perfectly nice, but it has a very clean and pretty feel. Yay on the hibiscus! Love the fabrics you used on that bee block – all the blocks are adorable.

I am going to love this farm quilt. And, isn’t it a delight when you first notice a favorite plant poking its head through the leaves in the spring!

the new look looks great. I wish I knew how to do it myself but I don’t I always have to ask my husband and then it will look more like he thinks it should be not me.

Blog update is looking good!!! Loving the barn animals, so far I think the bee is my favorite too

I may try to redo my blog sometime this summer. The block format is confusing to me, so I opt for Classic, but sometimes it gets switched to block, and I have to fudge around with it. That’s not how I want to spend my time! I’m loving all your farm animal blocks. I felt a twinge of temptation when I read your post and saw your posts but quickly tamped it down!!! I have other things that have to be prioritized right now!

Your new blog looks great, Wendy! And, those blocks are just adorable. I’m still looking at the book! LOL So glad that your hibiscus is coming to life! What few flowers I have are spiteful ones – – – they come back each year just for spite as I don’t do anything to help them! LOL LOL I can just hear them saying, “I’ll show you!”

I can’t get your pictures? What am I not doing right? Headed to Jadyns grad party today!

I was writing a comment and it disappeared! I hope it doesn’t show up twice now that I’m starting over. I love your new blog look – pretty header photo! It’s so nice that Tracie could help you. Hooray for not killing the hibiscus – I’m always happy to see plants come back, and feel like it’s a miracle that I can grow anything! The bee block is cute!

Love your Bee Block and your new look. Hooray for long time friends that can help too! I love the look of this theme. Maybe in August I will think about, the last few weeks have been more than enough for me for awhile!

  • Tracie

Wendy, the farm animal blocks are even cuter in person! I can imagine a quilt using the bee blocks alone because they are so cute. It makes me think of all the clever Bee Kind and Bee Happy artwork.

I was laying in bed thinking about your chicken block this morning and what do I see when I open your post. I can’t choose a favorite because they’re all so cute. Congrats on the upgrade to your blog layout. It’s not as much fun as sewing but when done, almost as rewarding. And congrats on the hydrangeas. I always think I have a garden angel helping me out when flowers come back. I haven’t figured out what the message is when they don’t return, though.

Very nice blog refresh. That does take some doing doesn’t it. Mine is probably due for a refresh too. Love your farm blocks. Happy stitching this week.

The new format for your blog is lovely and fresh.
Your bee is delightful. Can I tell you how I solved a similar slip-up? I coloured in the missing triangle with a coloured pencil.

That is one kicking chicken 😀 Love the new look!!! The buzzing bees’ wings move so fast it is a blur anyways 😀 Glad you made it work.

Hi Wendy! Yippee on the hibiscus. Ours is growing, too. They are just late bloomers, I guess. Gosh, the bee block is cute but my fav is the cow. I can just picture the cows staring at us that way. You captured the sweet face just perfectly. I can’t wait to see the little piggy. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
