Friday Finish

I have a Friday finish to show you today, a quick baby quilt for my daughter so she could gift it to her friends.

A while ago, I made the quilt top using the Haphazard pattern from Savor Every Stitch. With this pattern, you generate your own design for random HSTs. Liz has done all the math for you; you just have to answer a few questions and click a button, and you have a fun quilt design.

I’ve had the top done for quite awhile, and wasn’t in any rush to finish it until I knew I needed it. I had the backing chosen, a plaid flannel. I washed it up and it is so soft and snuggly. I debated about what batting to use. I ended up using a scrap piece of poly batting, which makes this quilt very cozy.

For the quilting, I ended up going with the serpentine stitch on the diagonal, which was very easy to do with all the HSTs in the quilt. I basically followed the diagonals in the HSTs, and where I couldn’t do that, I marked with a hera marker. I think it works well!

I used 50 wt Aurifil thread in Lemon Ice for the quilting, a light yellow variegated thread. Just before adding the binding, I stitched around the outer edge of the quilt to stabilize the edges to prevent puckering.

I am enjoying the larger sewing table so I can spread out the quilt while I sew!

The finished size of the quilt is 36 inches square. The top was pieced using Kona cotton in Peapod, Buttercup, and Snow. The backing is a plaid flannel I found at JoAnn Fabrics. The quilt was bound using Kona Peapod.

I’m linking up my Friday Finish with:

Have a good weekend, everyone! Happy quilting!
