Fussy Cut Cats

Fussy Cut Cats is my project for Project Quilting 12.2. The second challenge is to fussy cut, so I started looking through my fabric. I came across my stash of Sarah Golden fabric and I knew what I wanted to make.

You might recall that I’ve played a bit with fussy cutting this fabric before, when I made a cute little cat pinnie, which you can see in this post. This time, I chose to fussy cut three of the cats and also had a little fun with the Maker Maker phrase. I combined them with some Essex linen in my stash and came up with this.

Once the cats were fussy cut, I stitched them together in a row, then added a couple of linen strips to the sides, and another on the top. On a whim, I decided to fussy cut the Maker Maker phrase and add that in. Once the little mini was pieced, I used a scrap of fusible fleece for the batting, added a backing and some big stitching using Aurifil Lana wool thread in natural white and Aurifil floss in Dark Gray. I finished the project with binding from the same fabric line.

And a peek at the back too. This little mini measures 7″ x 7.5″. So why three cats? Well, I guess because we’ve had three cats since we’ve had this home – Thomas, Max, and of course – Wilbs.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing with this challenge and making my Fussy Cut Cats. How about you? Are you joining in?
