Happy 4th!

Happy 4th to all my friends here in the USA, and happy Monday to those elsewhere! I’m so glad you stopped by today. I have a fun little patriotic DrEAMi project to show you today. A DrEAMi (Drop Everything and Make It) project is one of those that stops all the other work you have going on, because you just have to make it – right now. The cute little acronym DrEAMi was created by Sandra of MMMQuilts – we also call these projects “squirrels”. She has a linky party at the end of each month where we all link up our fun projects. Sandra is taking the month of July off to spend time with family, so I’ll be linking up this post to her August linky party.

Some of you might notice that the above photo looks nothing like the other DrEAMi project I was chirping about recently. I shared this peek a couple weeks ago:

You’re right, of course. I finished this DrEAMi top, but I’m not ready to show it to you yet. I had so much fun with that project, I decided to start another (while I’m completely ignoring other projects that have deadlines).

I’ve had this pattern, Merry Go Round, by Atkinson Designs in my pattern stash, but have never made it. I dug into my scraps for blues and reds, and used the last of the background fabric from my Beothuk Star quilt (Sandra designed that pattern, and it’s a fun one).

This pattern is so quick and much easier than it looks. It would be even quicker if you have a die cutter, but I just used the rulers called for in the pattern – an EZ Grids Hexagon ruler and a 60-degree triangle. Even with the cutting, I had this top finished in less than an afternoon.

A little straight line quilting, using a Hera marker for the lines and it was done!

Here’s a peek at the back, I was able to use the rest of the  background fabric.

The striped binding is a Dear Stella fabric. Whenever I’m out shopping and see this fabric, I snag it. It’s great for binding, don’t you think?! Don’t let those corners scare you either – it’s easier than you think.

This little quilt isn’t staying with me. I’ll be gifting it today, and I hope the recipient enjoys it!

Happy 4th, USA friends – celebrate safely! Let’s make this a good week!
