June Monthly Color Challenge Block

It’s time for me to share my June Monthly Color Challenge Block. I’m taking part in the block of the month hosted by Patterns by Jen. Each month, Jen posts the free block on her blog. It’s free for the month; after that, it’s available for a nominal fee.

This year, Jen is using birds as her inspiration. This month’s bird is the Eastern Bluebird. As I drive around in the country here, I often see bluebird houses; however, I rarely see bluebirds. Our birder daughter could find them; I just don’t pay enough attention! You can learn about bluebirds here

If you are interested in joining the block of the month, pop over to Patterns by Jen for more information.

The four blocks at the beginning of this post are my blocks for January through April, clockwise from top left. Here is my block for May:

June 2020 Monthly Color Challenge Block

When I went to pull blue fabric for this block, I was surprised to realize how little blue I have on hand. I managed to find enough for the block, but I’ll need to replenish my stock soon. Of course, as soon as I finished this block, a fabric order arrived, with some blue fabric!

I had just enough of the dark blue fabric for this block. I think I have a small piece left. It’s a Michael Miller print that I bought from Bernie at Needle & Foot. I’m kinda sad to have used it all up, but I like it in this block, so it’s all good.

Jen does such a great job with her instructions for these blocks. I enjoy having a full month to get it done, no rushing necessary. We’re only six blocks in, so you can still join in if you like. You can find all the details here and you can find this month’s block instructions, as well as information about sponsors and prizes here

I’ll be sharing my July block on the first of the month, as a guest host for Patterns by Jen. I hope you stop by and see my block. It’s a current favorite!

Sounds like you started to replenish your stash already;) I hope you are going to share with us what arrived.

That’s neat fabric with the sort of “pick up sticks” lines! I’m doing the version with all the backgrounds in a neutral, so those pieces were precut in January. That makes each month’s block go even faster 🙂

I like that blue fabric, too, and your block turned out great! I think your green block is my absolute favorite! My blues were low except for the bundle of batiks I used for the Centred qal. So now I have the scraps from that for this month’s block. Better get to work on it!

Love your bluebird block, Wendy! Really, not much in the blue category? What’s your fav color?

I love all your blocks! We have both blue birds and blue jays. The blue birds are pretty and happy little birds to have around. The blue jays are really striking-looking, but are bullies and chase off other birds. Also quite loud! Looking forward to seeing your July block. Have a good day!

I look at my stacks of fabric and can never find just the RIGHT shade or tone of the color I’m looking for. A reason to place an order….or not! Love your block and that dark blue is gorgeous.

Hi Wendy! Ooh-la-la! I adore that dark blue fabric. Nice and it looks just perfect. All your blocks look so nice together. This is going to be one pretty quilt once it’s all together. ~smile~ Roseanne

I love your blocks! I kind of wish I had done more solids instead of so many different prints. I’ll have a true scrappy quilt when I’m done – lol! June is slipping by so I need to get busy on Mr. Bluebird.
