Pieceful Monday

It’s Pieceful Monday once again here at Pieceful Thoughts. The weekend went by quickly, didn’t it? I hope you enjoyed yours as much as I did.

In between my work on Moda Blockheads, I whipped up this little pincushion. This was sent to a fellow quilter in a pincushion swap.

I even did a little thread painting on the petals.

It was a fun little project using up some fabric from my stash.

I also cleared out the project bin that I had used for the Moda Blockheads project (yippee!). I went through the fabrics that were left, putting the fat quarters in a drawer, and bagging the tiny scraps. While sorting the little scraps, I found some tiny HSTs and I couldn’t just toss them in the bag. I had to make something. Since that first pincushion was so fun, I made another. This one is mine.

Two things – I didn’t see that little piece of lint there on my chair, which is now bugging me. And I didn’t remember to take a photo of the back of the pinny, which is pieced with a left over row of the little HSTs. I’ll see if I can remember to snap a photo of it later. All of the fabrics were left over scraps from the Moda Blockheads project.

I did make a couple other little projects from those scraps, and I’ll show those to you later this week.

And that project bin? It filled right up with another project. One that I hope will finish sooner than Moda Blockheads!

My Pieceful Monday usually begins with a peaceful Sunday. So Sunday afternoon, I made this nifty shopping tote.

Pieceful Monday - Made another Stand & Stow tote, pattern by Atkinson Designs - piecefulthoughts.com

While the tote looks red in this photo, it is actually more pink than red. The pattern for the tote is the Stand & Stow by Atkinson Designs. My tote is the medium size, which is approximately 12″(h) x 12″(w) x 7.5″ (d). This is a gift for a friend of my daughter. I use my medium-sized tote for groceries. I can get a lot of groceries in one bag, and I don’t have to worry about it tearing.

For this tote, I used Bosal as the stabilizer to give the tote structure so it will stand up. I hadn’t ever sewn with Bosal before. It is very stiff, which is good, but the Pellon I usually use is a bit more pliable and easy to work with.

A few weeks ago, I made this Simple Sack, another pattern from Atkinson Designs. I bought the pattern and fabric as a kit. True confessions, I really wanted the fabric more than the pattern, but then I was curious about the simplicity of the pattern.

Pieceful Monday - This shopping bag, the Simple Sack pattern by Atkinson Designs, is quick and easy to make - piecefulthoughts.com

If you are looking for a shopping bag pattern, something simple without the fuss of stabilizer and whatnot, this is a great pattern. It goes together so quickly. It is very generous in its size, measuring 14″ x 12″ x 7″ and it has nifty loops in the middle of one side and on the ends that you can loop around the stand at the self-checkouts. Wilbur was coming over to inspect; anything on the floor is his detail!

Coming up on Wednesday, I’ll be sharing my review of the Oliso Mini Iron. See you then!

Linking up today with Beth at Cooking Up Quilts and Becca at Pretty Piney.

Happy Pieceful Monday, friends!

Good morning fellow winner! What a lot of fun you’re sharing this morning. That little pincushion is so darn cute, and I adore the added thread painting on the petals. (I just read Yvonne’s – Jet Girl – post on her thread painting. WOWEE!) I also love the bags – all of them are great. I think I would use the last one the most as I always take bags with me grocery shopping. Thanks for all the ideas! ~smile~ Roseanne

Just lovely works here ;))) I especially like your threadwork on that pretty pillow…I haven’t ventured into FM quilting as yet..the foot I bought is staring at me every time I sit at my machine (yikes!!) hugs, Julierose

Two pretty pinnies! And your tote bags are cute, too. I keep thinking I should make re-usable shopping bags but we use the plastic sacks to line our kitchen trash bin. So I keep taking the plastic bags since we reuse them. But I do love a good tote bag 🙂

Wilbur does like to photo bomb doesn’t he! Love the bags and it makes me want to make up a whole bunch in scraps. I don’t know which I like more…but thinking if I do well on my IB Catalog project maybe the squirrel can come visit! I learned how to edit lint out. Do you use a mac?

Your pincushions and tote bags are so fun, Wendy! I love making things like that – quick and satisfying. Thanks for the link to the tote pattern – I’m going to go check it out. What a great idea to add those little loops to hold the bag onto the rack at the store!

Love your pincushions and look forward to seeing the back of the HST one. BTW, those slivers of scraps that accumulate when squaring off make good stuffing for pincushions, as do bit of thread. Thanks for the link to the tote patterns. Have a happy sewing week
