Rotation Quilt Top

I worked on my Rotation quil top this week, and it is finshed. I’m very excited to show it to you. This quilt pattern was designed by Jennifer at Dizzy Quilter. When I ordered the pattern from Jennifer, there was a glitch in the mail delivery, and I ended up with two patterns (Jennifer was so great to work with!). When Mary (Quilting is in My Blood) let me know she was going to be retiring, I asked her if she’d like to sew a Rotation quilt along with me. She said yes, I sent her the pattern, and you can see her finished project here. I like Mary’s clever use of the Halloween fabrics, don’t you?

You might recall this fabric pull I showed in an earlier post.

If I remember correctly, the brown fabric is Kona Chocolate. The rest of the fabrics are random fat quarters from my stash. I did switch out that deep purple on the right for a different fabric, since the value of the purple was too close to the brown. Once I got the fabrics cut, the flying geese went together quickly and it was time to trim.

Once the trimming was done, the blocks went together quickly. I had them all sewn in an afternoon. I put the blocks up on my design wall, moved them around until I felt good about the placement, and voila! My Rotation quilt top is done!

The quilt top measures 60″ x 75″ and is fat quarter friendly. The design is so versatile, I keep thinking of different colorways. The centers could be fussy cut, with coordinating fabrics for the “blades”. How about using all plaids with a chambray or essex linen background? Flannels? So many possibilities!

I’m going to leave this Rotation quilt top up on my design wall for a little while longer. I like the view from my sewing machine.

I’ve decided to name this quilt “Fireside” since it reminds me of fall nights, bonfires, and watching the glow of the embers in the fire. If you’d like to make a Rotation quilt, you can find the ordering info at Jennifer’s link above.

What about you – what are you stitching up today?
