Scrappy Batiks, Part 2

I’m sharing more batik finishes in this Scrappy Batiks, Part 2 post. I wanted to finish these projects up before the end of the year, and two of the projects will be gifted for Christmas. If you want to see my Scrappy Batiks, Part 1, you can see that post here

My scrappy batik projects have been the result of left over batik scraps and blocks from other larger quilts. Rather than continuing to shift the stack of orphan blocks from place to place, it was time to use them up.

This tablerunner was made from left over 6″ strips. The runner measures approx. 14″ x 30″.

Sometimes the serpentine stitch on my Janome is just the thing – it made finishing this runner fast and quick.

The quilting shows better on the back. I used Kona silver for the back of the quilt, and a leftover batik scrap for the binding. I took the photos of this runner back in September – believe it or not, our deck still looks just like that. We seriously could use some snow for Christmas!

The next is a quick placemat, measuring approx. 12″ x 18″.

I used a batik fat quarter from my stash for the backing, and a simple crosshatch to quilt it with matching thread so that the placemat can be reversible. The binding is from my left over bag of bindings – it was just exactly the right size. Love that!

Last, but not least, is this 10″ scrappy batik pot holder. I used a scrap piece of batting and a piece of Insulbrite to layer the sandwich. I did a simple stitch in the ditch along the rows and called it good. The binding and backing are, again, pieces from my stash.

And there you have it,  Scrappy Batiks, Part 2 – my final round up of playing with my batik scraps. All of these batik projects will be gifted, and I’m happy to have them out of my stash!
