Synergy Quilt Blog Hop

As I type this post, it is once again overcast, dreary and rainy. I’m dreaming of blue skies, so I decided to bring the blue skies into my quilt room. Today I get to show you my version of Synergy Quilt, a pattern designed by Sew Preeti Quilts. I’ve named mine Blue Skies; you’ll see why in a minute.

Preeti contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I would be willing to make her Synergy Quilt. You can see her original post about the Synergy Quilt here. You’ll want to go check out that post, because Preeti writes the best posts and her photos are so pretty and playful!

Well, I was delighted that she would reach out and ask, so of course I said yes! I had in mind to pull a fat quarter bundle and work from that, but I changed my mind. I wanted to create something with a background other than white. I remembered that I had some Kona Horizon stashed away. I had planned to use it for another quilt on my never-ending list of quilts I need to make. Since it wasn’t going to happen soon, it was time to use that fabric for Synergy! Here’s my version:

Using the Kona Horizon just made me think of blue skies, smiling at me – does it do that for you too?

Preeti’s quilt designs are so much fun. She keeps the construction simple and easy to do. Her instructions are well written and visual. I love that her designs lend themselves to so many different color ways, which you can see in Preeti’s Etsy Shop as well as the quilts made by the other bloggers in this Hop.

Published in Make Modern magazine earlier this year, Preeti has now released it as a stand alone pattern, and you can purchase it right now in her Etsy Shop here. Even better – Preeti is offering 25% off the pattern price until April 27th, so go grab one quick!

Here’s a closer view of Blue Skies, so you can see the white print. I used just three fabrics – Kona Horizon, Kona Black, and the white Libs Elliott print. The pattern works really well with multiple colors or just three, but I can see it in so many other fabric combinations. Batiks! Ombré! Even playful polka dots! For a little more inspiration, visit the others in the Synergy Quilt Blog Hop. Here’s the schedule:

Mari of Academic Quilter – Thursday, April 21, 2022Alycia of Alycia Quilts – Friday, April 22, 2022Wendy of Pieceful Thoughts – Saturday, April 23, 2022 – You’re here! Bonnie of Institches with Bonnie – Sunday, April 24, 2022Roseanne of Home Sewn By Us – Monday, April 25, 2022

Seriously, though, this pattern is such a quick make. Once the cutting is done (Preeti makes this simple), the construction can be done by chain piecing – and who doesn’t love that?! And if any of you have followed Preeti for awhile, you will know her generous heart when it comes to giving and donating quilts. This quilt would make a great donation quilt pattern to have in your library, and it would warm Preeti’s heart to bits if you used it for that purpose, I’m sure!

Okay, one more thing before you go! Blog Hops are more fun when there’s something to win, right? So how about a chance to win the Synergy Quilt PDF pattern?! Leave a comment and let me know – do you like using just a few fabrics in a quilt, or all the fabrics? Curious minds want to know!  I’ll draw a winner and announce it on my blog on Thursday, April 28th. (Don’t forget to leave me a way to contact you, too, if you are a no-reply blogger.)

Of course, if you just need to drop everything and make this quilt, you can pop over to Preeti’s Etsy Shop today and snag one for yourself!

Thanks for letting me share my Blue Skies Synergy Quilt with you today. Thanks, Preeti, for asking me to be a part of the Synergy Quilt Blog Hop!

Happy sewing, all!

Wendy

Wendy, it depends on the pattern, what I making it for, and who. Sometimes I want wild, other times subdued. And, lots of times I want it to be totally different looking than the designer made. Ie Negative space vs positive space. I’d love to win! (Pets to Wilbs ❤️)

Lately I have been selecting a small group of fabric colors to go onto my quilts. I choose a variety of colors when the pattern just seems to need them as I lay them across my bed to see how they work together.

I love scrap quilts but I also love just picking 3-4 fabrics as it makes it quicker to cut and the decision is easier as to where each fabric should go! I love black and whites in a quilt, nice job Wendy! And so appropriate that you post your blue skies today since we have no real blue skies again today!

Hi Wendy, Your quilt is beautiful! I like doing both scrap quilts and matching quilts. The last few years I’ve mostly made scrap quilts but now I’m cutting fabric for a mystery quilt and it’s in matching fabrics. Thanks for a chance to win.

Love your fabric pull and your quilt. It definitely looks like blue skies!! As for a few or all the fabrics, it really depends on the pattern and the mood I’m in, though usually it’s a coordinated look!

  • Nancy Bekedam

Very forward, summery looking, Wendy!!! A few fabrics or all the fabrics–I guess it depends on the pattern!

This is so pretty, Wendy! I love the blue, and the black and white make such a nice contrast. Looks very modern and fresh. Perfect for spring!

Good morning, Wendy! I just LOVE Synergy in blues. It does evoke memories of blue skies and the only thing better would have been sitting in that boat pictured with a beverage and Blue Skies causally close but only needed when cruising over the chilly water. Isn’t it just fabulous how everyone has made the pattern their own? There are just SO many possibilities with Preeti’s Synergy pattern. Great job! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

If I’m doing a scrap quilt, the intent is to use up all the fabrics I can! But I do like the challenge of using a few specific fabrics for a more modern quilt esthetic. I wonder if this pattern would do well with scraps?

What a great job you did of this pattern, Wendy. But you know I admire everything you sew. I forgot to mention your cross stitch in Thursdays’ post…very pretty and you are right the colour looks lovely. Back to this quilt, blue skies indeed! It’s all about the fabrics for me and I’m trying to remember to use more solids besides just as backgrounds.

  • Needle and Foot

Hmmm, I would say I am leaning toward a controlled color scheme. Maybe because we have been living in chaos for the last six months or so and I just want calm?? Love your choices here – the background with the black and white is very nice – like Preeti said above, good negative positive vibe here. I do love Preeti’s patterns. You know me – I am not a fussy quilter so this sort of pattern is perfect for me.

I like your three color choice. I might try a rainbow pattern but that would take more thought. So picking from larger pieces of fabric and cutting from those would be much faster, especially if it’s a donation quilt. And blue skies have finally (today) returned to No. Nevada! Hopefully the wind is gone with the clouds.

Kona Horizon is a beautiful color, and I love it with the black and white, Wendy! Very striking! I’m making Preeti’s Masala Box right now, so I know how she makes a neat design with fairly simple piecing. She’s good at that!

  • Bonnie in VA

You did a fabulous job on your Synergy quilt now called Blue Skies. I never even thought of using a colorful background fabric. It was Kona white from the first. I’m guessing I’m going to make this one again using other colors.

Wendy, this is good blog to read on sunday morning! Thanks for the energy. We have to less rain…. But I can understand what you need, sun and spring. So, great quilt to get motivated. It depends really for whom the quilt is and what is on stock. I plan one quilt with mini scraps and one colour (to work down Mount scrap), first some of my fabrics bought years ago, when I started are not really modern and need to go into a quilt with log cabin. After hopefully have some empty boxes I think I will switch a little bit more in the direction you showed. So, both possibilities are under the needle. Love to win, because the pattern looks really super. Thanks for the new inspiration and your wonderful blog!

  • Diana Kastelic

Love your 3-colour Synergy quilt! Sometimes I like the controlled look you get with fewer fabrics, sometimes a rainbow colours with solid background is more what I’m looking for. Can’t decide (& luckily I don’t have to!)

  • Christi

I guess I love lots of fabrics but I can appreciate the beauty of just a few colors in a quilt. Yours turned out wonderful.

  • Nettie Sews

I have used just a few fabrics before, plus many fabrics. This pattern looks like it would work either way. Very nice quilt top! Also, I love your pontoon boat photo. I cannot wait until we can get our boat in the water.

  • The Morning Latte

This is so pretty–and yes it does look like cheerful blue skies! (Or maybe a pool…but likely because that’s what’s on my brain!). I’ve been wanting to play with background colors other than my usual neutrals–something more bold (or even black) so I love to see the ways others choose to do it. Will Connie be quilting this? Any designs in mind yet?
