TGIFF Minnesota Mystery Finish

I’m your host today for Thank Goodness It’s Finished Friday, or TGIFF. I have a TGIFF Minnesota Mystery finish to show you today.

I'm hosting TGIFF this week, April 8th - piecefulthoughts.com

Last month when I was host for TGIFF, I messed up the closing time for the linky party. For those of you who weren’t able to link up, I apologize. I’m hoping I will get it right this time. This party runs until midnight on Saturday, so you have time to get your finishes in!

My TGIFF Minnesota Mystery finish is a from the 2019 Minnesota Quilters’ Mystery QAL. The quilt was designed by Suzy Webster, who also gave us our clues from week to week. Mystery quilts always scare me a bit, I don’t feel very confident in choosing fabrics when I’m not really sure what the design will be. For this mystery, I decided to go with fabrics that coordinated well and that I liked. In the past, I’ve chosen fabrics that I wasn’t all that thrilled about, just in case I didn’t like the quilt. Have you ever done that? Anyway, I chose Art Gallery Fabrics for this mystery quilt, from Pat Bravo’s Indigo Boheme and Legendary lines.

The finished quilt measures just shy of 72″ square, large enough that my 6’6″ husband had to use his full wingspan to hold the quilt.

Connie once again worked her magic for the quilting, a fun swirly design. I tried to get a couple of photos.

I think that this was one of the last large quilts I finished just before the pandemic. I’m so glad it’s finally finished!

Okay, now it’s your turn! Let’s see what quilts you’ve finished, from the first cut to the last stitch in the binding! Show us your beautiful quilt for TGIFF!

I love these fabrics — they do fit your modern vibe! That’s a big quilt! Are you going to use it on a guest bed or your bed?

Mystery quilts definitely feel like jumping out and wondering if there is a net below. This is lovely, and selecting fabric you love was a great choice. Is this quilt meant to stay at home for your husband to use (it seems like it would be a good fit!)?

Oooh, that’s a cute one! Love the pink and yellow together. Mystery quilts always get me, but they go so fast. I’m seduced by the possibilities, but then I usually give up in the middle somewhere. Sometimes I finish them, sometimes not. But I’m certainly glad to see yours, all nice and finished and shiny! Nice work!

I don’t like Mysteries for the same reason, what if I don’t like it and wasted my fabric!! But in this case I think you ended up very well, bright and fun.

Hi Wendy! What a fabulous finish for today and how nice that it’s an old UFO just waiting its turn. I feel the same way about mystery quilts. When we first started quilting our guild had a mystery QAL. We dutifully selected fabrics. They may have been fine had the placement been different but since we didn’t know how they would end up . . . well, let’s just say it’s not my favorite quilt. I cover up with it just about every night from late Fall until about now, and I always think I wish we had picked different fabrics. It’s a nice sized lap quilt, though, and it’s held up well. Great job on all of your selections. I really LOVE how the pink border pulls out those slim slices of pink throughout the top. Fabulous! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Wow! Wendy this is just gorgeous! I love Art Gallery fabrics, and I actually have the Pat Bravo Legendary one: yours is pink, I have it in yellow. 🙂 Yes, I’ve chosen fabrics where I wasn’t crazy about every one of them to do a mystery, and I’ve chosen some I love. Mysteries make me fret a bit!

Congrats on a bold and beautiful finish! My rule for mystery quilts is that the fabrics have to come out of the stash and are often left overs from other projects. That way if I’m disappointed in the design, I’ve at least gotten some odds and ends out of the stash.

I love the colors in this, especially the way the pink floral print really pops! Lovely finish!

This is so beautiful, Wendy. What vibrancy in the whole piece! Perfection! I love AGF but can’t seem to find them to buy in the usual places.
