To Do Tuesday

I’m late getting this To Do Tuesday post written, but I want to join in with Carol from Quilt Schmilt for her To Do Tuesday linky party today. I have been busy working away in my quilt room, but I can’t show you any of the projects quite yet. Here’s an update on my list from last week, however.

Endeavourers Challenge Quilt – I am making good progress with this, and having so much fun. I can’t even show a teaser photo – it will give too much away.

Villa Rosa Fast & Fun Blog Hop Project  – this is done, photos are taken, and now I just need to get the post written. The hop starts on January 19th, and my day to post is the 21st.

SAHRR 2023 – Center block has been chosen, now I need to stage some photos, which means I need to pull out some props. I’m dragging my feet on that step, but will get it done soon!

How About a Few Diversions?

Since I can’t show you any of the above projects, I’ll show you a few other diversions that have dropped in this week. Maybe they will inspire you, or distract you, or both! Haha!

You might recall that I decided to do a 100 Day Challenge a few years ago. Each day I stitched up a little plus block and posted it on Instagram and in my blog. You can see the finished quilt in this post

I’ve been considering doing another 100 day project, and then Ann Wood announced she will be hosting a free 100 Day Stitch Book sew along starting on January 20th. You can read her blog post here; there is a link in that post with more details if you are interested in joining the group.

I have my first 20 pages cut, ready and waiting. This is something new to me, making stitched pages, but I’ve wanted to try, having been inspired by Mariss the Quilter and her concertina books. If you don’t follow Mariss, you should spend some time on her site. She is a gifted artist and I find so much inspiration from her work.

Fabric rectangles cut and ready to make pages for a stitch book

My stitch book will be larger than the small concertina books made by Mariss, but I think it will be a good way for me to begin. All of the fabrics are pieces from other projects, with the exception of the light blue on the far left, which is cut from an old denim shirt.

A second little diversion dropped in last week, a monthly improv project that I couldn’t resist. Brenda Gael Smith of Serendipity Patchwork & Quilting is hosting her Dreamlines Project 2023, a monthly art project that is free and open to all. You can go here to read more, and sign up if you are interested. The pace is very relaxed – you make the units during the month, as many as you like (or have time for). I think it will be fun.

For this month, I’ve started making the dash units. I decided to use green for the dashes and change out the other fabric, just to see where that takes me. Once I run out of the green scrap, I’ll go another direction if I have time before month’s end.

Meanwhile, my daughter and I are still working on our owls, another sew along with Ann Wood. We are working slowly through this, getting together when daughter’s schedule allows.

Two owl bodies, stuffed, and adding the eyes

My owl is on the left, Molly’s on the right. I’m using a batik for the body that I’ve had in my stash forever, just waiting for the right project.

My list for this week is just a bit different than last:

  • Finish the challenge quilt
  • First border for SAHRR
  • Start Tuxedo Tales – more on that in another post

What about you – what’s on your quilty list for the week? Thanks for reading my To Do Tuesday post!

Cute projects. Thanks for the links to the information. It’s tempting to join in, but I feel as if I have enough on my plate already. Love what you’re doing with the little lines project.

Hi Wendy! It’s like a new crafty wind has blown into your home and soon-to-be-finished studio! You’ve got all sorts of unique projects that are quite intriguing. Thanks for sharing the links to all of them – I’ll check them out. Good luck with this week’s list! I can’t believe it’s time for the SAHRR to start already. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I’m interested to see your book come together, Wendy! Ann Wood’s fabrics and work look very Japanese!

Hi Wendy. Your list looks like fun. The worst thing about working on your home projects is not being able to share peeks at them. Thank you for sharing so many great links to more new projects. They all look like they will be enjoyable. Love those green dashes. Your owls are progressing. It’s wonderful that you and your daughter are working on them together. Have a wonderful week playing with fabric. Thank you for linking with TDT 🤗

I really need to buckle down and finish pattern writing so that I can start a new project. I think the incentive of starting the new quilt will finally push me over the edge… I hope so, anyway! Looks like you found several lovely diversions. I look forward to hearing and seeing more about the stitch book and I love how you’ve embraced improv. Have a great week!

What a lot of squirrels you have pointed me towards. Love the fabric book by Ann; will probably join in the 100 day stitching project. I have taken a few online classes with Brenda Gael Smith so have now downloaded the first part of her stitchalong. I’d forgotten that SAHRR was starting soon and I had also forgotten about Project Quilting. All this when my main sewing machine is away, hopefully, being fixed. 🙂

It’s so fun to see peeks into your art studio! I’m in love with your joint owl project because it’s perfect for the two of you. I’m going to take a look at the stitch book blog post now; it’s intriguing!

You really do find some interesting challenges or squirrel projects to keep you busy and out of trouble;) In the process you will be entertaining us too!

Your list looks awesome! I love the idea of the 100 page book – it will be fun to see. I am sewing like a fiend at our retreat…here until Thursday afternoon. I have a post ready for this week, but need to add a little more to it. I am amazed that you are done with your hop quilt already! Congrats!

Firstly, thank you very much for publishing the link to my post on concertina books and for the nice things you said about my work. It’s made my day.
Second, I am waiting with anticipation to see the results of the all the challenges and stitchings you have been doing.
Third — I was definitely distracted and almost tempted by the distractions you have undertaken this week. Your dash strips are delightful and it looks like a fascinating project for the year. I spent a long time looking at Ann Wood’s site and reading about her 100 day stitch book project and was sorely tempted. For now, though, I will just be a bystander (lurker?) and look at what you and others make. My plate is a bit full at the moment.

First of all, love to the a little bit of Wilbs. Miss him here in the blog. Virtuell cat food will not help to get his nice face into the camera? Love the way of process of the owls. They will come out perfect. The pages out of fabric for the book are perfect. It will turn super interesting with colourfull threat. Yes Mariss is perfect to inspire us to stich and Ann Wood is for my opinion in a fantasy world and all her things are so much with love and detailed. Very good to try that stiching book!! And the inspiration from Australia… now we are connected… from SA to CA to Australia.. anyone from Japan here reading? So ice to read this blog … thank you for your time to write, to inspire, to help back to the fun of sewing and get things done! Thanks a lot 😘
