Villa Rosa Designs Fast and More Fun Blog Hop 2024

Hi! I’m Wendy, and I’m delighted you’ve stopped by on Day 2 of the Villa Rosa Designs Fast and More Fun blog Hop 2024! If you are new here, let me tell you a little about myself. I have been quilting for about 30 years here in my little house in Minnesota, where I live with my husband and Wilbs, my cat. I am an eclectic quilter – some days I’ll be working on traditionally-pieced quilts, other days I’m playing with improv. I’m happiest when I have the freedom of variety.

Speaking of variety, if you are not familiar with Villa Rosa Designs, you are in for a treat. These nifty little quilt patterns, all printed on postcard-size cardstock, are great little designs to have in your stash, or to give as a gift. The patterns are simple, versatile, and fun. Stop by the Villa Rosa Designs website to see the variety of patterns available, both by single purchase, or in bundles. But don’t go there quite yet – I have a little more to share with you!

The curated bundle for this Hop has 5 designs. As guest bloggers, we were asked to pick one or more of the designs to make for the Hop.

Isn’t that a fun variety of patterns to choose from, and the bundles are reasonably priced! You can purchase the bundle at the Villa Rosa website (link above), but you might also WIN a bundle during this Hop. Several of the guest bloggers have made more than one of the designs, so you’ll get to see a variety of quilts from this bundle. I kept it simple and chose to make Clover for this Hop. Here’s my version.

My Clover runner measures 18″ x 43″. I used a charm pack I’ve had in my stash for awhile (Harvest Road by Lella Boutique), which made the construction of my Clover quilt fast and easy. The dark navy Grunge border and the green binding are also fabrics from my stash.

A simple serpentine stitch made the quilting go quickly, and added a nice texture to the quilt top. The backing is another fabric from my stash, a cream and blue print. Villa Rosa Designs patterns are great stash busters!

One of the other reasons I enjoy Villa Rosa Designs patterns – each fabric pull makes the design look unique. For this runner, you could change it up and use just two prints or colors; or you could use your favorite batiks. How about using one color in two or three different shades? I think it would be fun to make this runner in a Mondrian vibe, bold and colorful, but I could also see it in a variety of low-tone neutrals.

Hopefully I’ve got you thinking about how you would play with this bundle of patterns, so let’s talk about what else is going on in the Hop. We have some amazing prizes to give away, thanks to our generous sponsors (click on the logo to go to their site):

I love the colors in your runner! Thanks for sharing! My favorite hop pattern is “31”. I would use it with a Steampunk Stitchery panel.

  • Beth T.

I think “Twinkle” is the most interesting, but “Gypsy” would probably get the most use at my house, making kennel quilts and charity quilts.

    • Donna Overmoyer

I had picked up the twinkle pattern a few months back and looking forward to seeing what other bloggers have done with the pattern. I just picked up a charm pack and now I know what I can do with it. Thank you. It is Avery pretty table runner.

  • Kim Pemberton

I am new to both villa rose and blogging. But I’m loving it and can’t wait to get started on a new project

    • Diann@ Little Penguin Quilts

That’s a pretty runner, Wendy! I love the blues in your charm pack. I’m always a fan of tablerunners, but I like all of the patterns in this collection. It would be fun to try 31 with a panel because I never sew with panels!

  • Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting

I love that Harvest Road line of fabric!!! Great choice for making Clover, Wendy!!! Clover is definitely my fav–fast and fun and a great use of a charm pack of your fav prints!!!

  • texasquiltgal

Wow that’s pretty Wendy! Now you’ve got me interested in the Autumn Road collection – all such great colors and patterns. I love the navy Grunge border and the green binding you added. Will you keep it, and where would you put it?

  • The Morning Latte

I think Twinkle is my fave, but I went with Gypsy and now I’m wanting to make a few of these runners–does that say something about me as a quilter? As a person? Ha ha. Your runner turned out really well. The serpentine quilting is a perfect touch for it, too. I have a few charm packs that I’ve stolen from here and there so I may just whip some of these out for gifts. (Never hurts to start early for Christmas, right?)

  • Tracie

I love your runner, Wendy! Of course the fabric is terrific. I’m going to pull out a charm pack and make Clover next. You inspired me again!

  • nbhilyard58c5182215

Your interpretation of Clover is so soothing — I like the pop of cocoa among the blue. I’ve enjoyed making all five of these designs — Villa Rosa patterns offer so many design opportunities. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Renea Yarolim

Your runner is so pretty. Love the colors. This is one of the reasons I love these patterns because you can change up the fabric and get totally different looks. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • sewhappy88

My favourite pattern was Gypsy – but this is a great table runner pattern – so it may now be my favourite! Love that I can easily make it longer. Thank you!

  • Sherry V

Oh no, I don’t know if I could pick one favorite pattern. It seems that I have a new favorite every day! I have made several quilt tops from VRD patterns and am sure I will be making more since I have a ton of fabrics in my stash.

  • Rita Haverman

Lovely easy table runner. Fun fun little patterns that pack a quilty punch. Thank you for this hop. Can’t wait to see the other participants.

  • Kate

I really like the fabrics you picked for the runner. And the easy quilting, it’s easy to forget that easy and quick can still make nice finishes.

  • Rita Sevig

Love the soft colors on your runner. We have a rainy day here and I’d like nothing more than to wrap up in a larger version of the runner.

  • Jan

Wendy, I have a few bundles of charm squares to use up and you have inspire me. Thanks. I like each of the patterns but think I like 31 best.

    • Robin E Maloney

I love your color choices for Clover. I love using VDR cards they go together so fast. I think I will be making Twinkle or Gypsy or maybe I will just have to make them all

  • Kathy C

All of the patterns look like they would be fun to make. I have the Ebb Tide card and look forward to giving that one a try. Great job on the runner!

    • Donna

I really like your table runner. I have Fernanda cut out right now but Twinkle and Gypsy are calling my name!!

  • Brenda in Georgia

Following all these blogs will be a fun thing for me to do. I have been in a funk for a while. Maybe Spring weather and following all these blogs will help. I only do smaller things now so I love the Clover pattern. I have a slew of charm packs that I can use. I also saw the Shamrock Snack Mat pattern that I would like to try. I truly love the Villa Rosa Designs. Thanks so much for doing this!

  • Cindy Berry

Good morning Wendy. Another fine finish . I love the Twinkle pattern but of course they are all good. I have made a couple of the Villa Rosa designs. Enjoy the HOP. cmberry@lsu.edu

  • mlminnis

    Mary Lee

I love the split block in this pattern. It makes the design more than a row of 5 inch blocks. Great color choices.

  • jsyoungsurgery

So far love the Panel quilt 31 and the Gypsy pattern made into larger quilt. But the hop has only started.

  • Kathleen McCormick

I love this! What a fun fabric line and the grunge border is perfect. It is so much fun using these quick patterns and I think Clover is my new favorite for scraps from my blueberry fabrics for a summer table runner!

  • Julie in MN

Twinkle! Twinkle because I like the word, I like stars, and I like the ideas for color play that are popping in my heard!

  • sgkrei

oh what a great idea for that charm pack I keep not using, I love it, I just haven’t found anything to do with it! this blogging thing just might be what I have been missing!

  • rl2b2017

Hi Wendy! Great job on the table runner. I love those fabrics! Your backing was the perfect choice. All around it’s a win/win/win in my book. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Your table runner looks fantastic! Kudos on using your stash, and you’re right–Villa Rosa patterns are very versatile, working with many styles of fabrics. Anne-Marie ~ quilting @ storiesfromthesewingroom dot com

Cute table runner. I need a new runner for family room so my furniture does not get ruined. Every blog I visit gives me more creative ideas. Thank you. I am joining your blog

  • Carol C

The Twinkle pattern is probably my favorite… I love the table runner — love the fabrics you used, and so fun they were all from your stash!!

  • Nikki Moshier

Your runner is lovely. I think I like Twinkle best as I am a scrappy quilter and I think it would work!

  • shawkersc641278f8f

Thank you for showing off the Clover pattern. I have an empty coffee table that I need to decorate!

  • mail4kristine

Ebb tide turned out beautiful – makes me think of peaceful waters. It’s so fun seeing the patterns with each individual twist on them!

  • Lezlie L Kunkel

What a delightful table runner….love it.

I think I will use the pattern Twinkle for my next make.

  • Cocoa Quilts

Wendy perfect fabric choice. I haven’t met a Lella Boutique fabric collection I didn’t want! This is one I didn’t get and always enjoy it when I see it in a project. Beautiful runner, may need to make one soon.

  • Michelle Boswell

I like this table runner! I love making quilts, but sometimes I want instant gratification and this would be perfect!

  • Kathy Harris

Your runner looks beautiful and I love the size of it. My favorite in this bundle is 31. I have several panels that I’d like to work on and this pattern looks like it will be great.

  • Barb K

I like both “Gypsy” and “Twinkle”–fun to see the different patterns in different fabrics!!
    barbkaup(at)(yahoo)(dot)(com)

  • Pat

Thank you for introducing your version of the table runner. I like to make them to add to the decor. I like Gypsy which I have made several baby quilts and lap quilts.

  • Ginger D Harman

Oh I really like Harvest Road by Lella Boutique with this pattern! Then again I really like cool colors. My favorite pattern is 31. I tend to fall in love with panels and now have a stash of them so 31 is a great pattern. However, the pattern you showcased is fantastic. Moreover this pattern would be a great stash buster! Thank you for sharing!

  • Pam

I had a sudden inspiration when I saw your version of the Clover pattern so that is now my favorite of the five patterns. It’s a good one for a newbie like me.

  • Tricia

Hey Wendy, I love how your runner turned out! Gorgeous fabrics. I’m afraid I can’t pick must one of the five patterns—love them all. I only need to make a 31 to have made each one and 31 has been on my to-do list for a while now, so I guess it’s probably time to just do it. Thanks for a great inspiring post.

  • Susan Salo

I have a full quilt made with that fabric line and I just love it! I may have enough left to make this runner too, although Gypsy was my first choice.

  • lee

A really lovely table runner with the Clover pattern. Love those colors! I would love to make this pattern and twinkle!

  • J Foor

Me thinks I have a charm pack that would be perfect for Clover. And your simple Serpentine quilting is terrific. Thanks for the great read and beautiful inspiration.

  • Mary D

I really like table runners but have never made one. Go figure. Right now I like the 31 quilt as I have a couple of fabric panels and now I have ideas on how to use them.

  • designsbyheidi

What a great post Wendy for Villa Rosa. I LOVE that place. Can you believe it, they are only 1 mile FROM MY HOUSE! It is a very dangerous but super fun place. Ha,ha. They are Best, Pat, Bonnie, and Heidi and Molly, etc. I sure hope others can get out for the quilt shop hop! Hugs, Heidi

  • Sharon Blosser

I like the “31” pattern and will use it for a Blue Christmas tree panel I have. Thanks for your blog.

  • rmgsummers413a14ca5a

Beautiful runner, Wendy. I do like their pattern cards. Gypsy (because of the bright colors) is tied with Twinkle. I really love stars. Thank for the chance to win.

  • Martha Gee

That looks like a beautiful and easy runner. Great job! I like the twinkle pattern although I haven’t tried it yet.

  • brighteyeslk

I really like the pattern Twinkle. I am one for the use of color and my goodness who doesn’t love triangles.

  • Nancy McClelland

I like the idea of the pattern being on the postcard. I am making table runners and placemats right now so I love the table runner you did. Looks like a fun, quick project.

  • Margaret Morton

So glad to see Clover “in the flesh”, so to speak…laid out flat and in different colorway. Your fabric choices are great; thanks for closeup of your serpentine quilting.

  • marmic1954

I think this would have been the design I chose as well, simply because I’m not a great ‘sane’ quilter and have a ways to go before I’m really comfortable with it. In the meantime I’ll stick to doing landscapes where I don’t have to match points!. Fun hop!!!

  • iambuzzysma

You are sew right about the versatility of the outcomes with different fabrics with these designs. Best Blog Hop ever! Annmarie (iambuzzysma@yahoo.com)

  • dvcarousel4

Great inspiration. I have strips all cut out & have decided to use Gypsy for my next charity quilt. Thankyou for your colorful photos & ideas.

  • Kathy E.

Yours is such a great runner! I do think it would be super in just 2 colors…or 3 for the holidays. My favorite pattern among the 5 for this hop is Twinkle. I’m thinking I could work through a whole lot of my scraps to make it! duchick at gmail dot com

  • Rosalind Gutierrez

The coordinated charms make for an appealing table runner. The Twinkle pattern by VRD is my fav!

  • Anne Brumm

I am a new follower and am excited to see what you do with the patterns. I use Villa Rosa patterns regularly and really enjoy them.

  • Debbie S Wallace

I just signed in to your bog. The Clover runner inspires an Easter runner to me. Gotta go get to it!

  • Eva

Love your table runner and the colour you choose. A finished work within all the other works. Wow, you are very a busy bee. One of my quilt shops have the pattern from Villa Rosa and they are really good. There will be a lot to see in the next days. And wow.. I have to scroll down really long. So many people participating. How nice!!

  • pksews

It is so nice to be introduced to your lovely blog via this blog hop! I follow a lot of Quilters on Instagram, but I much prefer reading blogs and all the detail they offer. You runner is beautiful. I like the warm and peaceful color combination.

  • Barb Sebastian

I like what you did with the Clover pattern and will definitely be doing it. The pattern from the set that is my favorite is Gypsy.

  • Bonnie Larson

Wow. Great prizes. I love Villa Rose patterns. They are such fun and I love your quilt. Great selection of colours for the pattern style. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  • J Mur

What a great use of that charm pack! Good thinking on going easy this time around, Wendy. Goodness knows, you’ve got a LOT on your plate right now!!

  • garnet626f353ed633

I’m learning so much about how these patterns look different with the choice of fabrics. I really like 31 because I have a number of panels to do.

    • marissthequilter

This is comment number 158! Well done Wendy on inspiring so many people.
I love the simplicity and quiet colours of your Clover runner. I am also impressed that you went ‘shopping’ in your stash for all the materials

  • Patti Guevara

My favorite from the patterns is 31. I’m going to make one with my Nightmare Before Christmas panel.

  • Samantha Burnside

My favorite pattern is Gypsy. I really like Ebb Tide and Twinkle as well. You did a wonderful job on your 31. I’m now a subscriber. I think I commented before but possibly didn’t leave an email address. Thanks for considering me for a prize!

  • Julie Kennedy

It’s so much fun to see everyone’s different interpretations of these patterns. Your Clover runner is beautiful! My favorite of the five patterns is Twinkle, but I am always looking for ways to use panels, so 31 would be a good choice too.

  • lisaenglandvt

I have a hard time choosing favorites! I was loving the Gypsy pattern after seeing some blogger versions of it and now your Clover version has me thinking that I like it very well too. The many looks of the VRD patterns that you can achieve by mixing up the fabrics is definitely a great thing. And so many of the patterns are so quick! I want to make a bunch.

  • Donna Teeter

The soft palette you used for your Clover runner looks so peaceful. As you mentioned, this and other VRD projects take on the personality of the fabrics used by the maker!

  • Emily

I started thinking one was my favorite but now I like them all even more because I’ve been able to see so many variations!
