Wednesday’s Whimsies

Wednesday’s whimsies are the little projects or blocks I’ve been working on this week. Since I don’t have any specific holiday sewing that needs to be done, I’ve just been playing a bit and thoroughly enjoying myself.

Tiny Tree Blocks

There are 7 blocks out as of the writing of this post. Here are my seven.

Each little block is 2-3/4 inches. They are such fun to make. I’m not sure about the bow tie block; might be too bright compared to the rest. I’ll wait to see how it plays when all the blocks are finished.

More Vintage Christmas Fun

I need to replace the acorn blocks in my kitchen, so I’ve chosen this pair to go up in their place. Once done, these blocks finish at 6″. The patterns are from Lori Holt’s Vintage Christmas book.

I have had that background fabric since my daughter was young. I purchased it thinking I would make her a dress. She quietly informed me she didn’t like polka dots. Who knew? I sure didn’t! All turned out well, I have used that fabric for so many quilting projects. It’s almost gone now, and I’m a little sad.

How About a New Project?

Are you looking for a fun project during your holiday break? One that won’t take long, and is a joy to make?

I had so much fun testing this Fractured Triangles pattern for Carole Lyles Shaw. She will be releasing this pattern on Monday. I hope to work on quilting this over the weekend, if I can settle on a backing for it. More details to come when I show you my finished quilt, but I hope you consider purchasing this pattern from Carole.

That’s my Wednesday’s Whimsies here in my little corner of the world. What whimsies are you chasing this week?

bet you are glad she told you before you made the dress!! I have some fabric too that is old – I had just finished my Scrappy Stars for RSC and younger daughter wants it and I pointed out to her that some fabric I used for her son’s baby quilt is in it (he is now 19 lol)
    I love your snowmen!!

Oh my gosh…she doesn’t like polka dots? Call an ambulance! Somebody dial 9-1-1! They do make great snow though. I’ve been known to purchase polka dots just because they’ll make good snow. I don’t have anything going on for the holidays either. If I need a gift, there’s always homemade and canned cranberry something-or-other. Now that Semper Fi is finished, I can just relax and enjoy my sewing with no deadlines approaching.

I love your tiny blocks Wendy, but I do agree: that bowtie did jump out before I even read a word…however sometimes it’s nice to have a pop here and there, so maybe make another one in that same fabric… What is it with triangles all of a sudden?! Love your rendition of Carole’s pattern. She does amazing stuff. And the snowmen are too adorable.

I was going to say take her temperature if she doesn’t like Polka dots but Barb said it all, LOL But hey more for you to enjoy then;) Of course I love the snowmen!!! I’ll bet you had fun testing that pattern for Carole.

I like your brighter green bowtie, too – mine is kind of like that, too! Since we don’t really know how exactly how these go together, I’m considering it a scrappy project where anything goes! 🙂 Those snowmen are adorable! They’ll be fun hanging in your kitchen. I remember when you first made the fractured triangles project – I’ll have go check out her site because that does intrigue me!

I think those little blocks are too much fun. I think the bowtie may work, especially if you use a bit of that green in another block. The snowmen are fun too and that fractured triangle is really interesting. You are having a good time!

Hi Wendy! I had to giggle when you said your daughter quietly informed you that she didn’t like polka dots. What?!! I’m glad you were able to rally and use the fabric for other projects. It is cute – I would be sad to be reaching the end of it as well. Your tiny blocks look fab to me. And your snowmen will look fan and fab replacing the acorns. It is definitely time! ~smile~ Roseanne

Wendy I love those green little blocks. I can’t even imagine piecing that small. I want to see more of these little ones!
