Come DrEAMi with Me

Come DrEAMi with me has been the ongoing theme in my quilt room this month. While I’ve been trying to catch up on QALs, I have been easily distracted by the playful little squirrels that have stopped by. Sandra of mmm!Quilts has a linky party at the end of each month for our Drop Everything and Make It (or DrEAMi) projects, so I’ll be joining in this month.

Guacamole DrEAMi Project

Most of you have likely seen this quilt in my previous post. This was definitely a DrEAMi squirrel. I had plenty of other things to be working on, but this little quilt just had to be made, and I love it.

It’s fun when a squirrel pops in and I have all the fabric necessary for the little adventure. A few chips don’t hurt, either!

Pollen Pillow

This little squirrel was a project for our trip to New Mexico. Working with fabric from my stash, I decided to give EPP a try. I found that I do really enjoy stitching these little pieces together. All the paper has been removed from this piece, and now it needs to be stitched to the pillow background, which is an 18-1/2″ piece of Essex linen. Now that I see the photo, I think I need to change it so that the bottom right medallion is at the top of the pillow. Someday I will make this pattern again, but in a better choice of fabric for fussy cutting.

Another EPP DrEAMi Project

Sometimes the diversions happen when you are quilting with a friend. Her squirrel became mine. She was getting rid of some things, and I happened to see this baggie full of basted hexies. I said no to myself and walked away. A few minutes later, I looked at it again. It came home with me. I do love them; they are so bright and pretty!

I particularly like to see them stacked. It makes me feel so productive. My stack has grown since this photo. I now have 11 hexie flowers done.

Scrappy Island Batik DrEAMi Project

I just started this one yesterday. A little while ago, I won some Island Batik fabric scraps. I have had this pattern in mind and finally just had to drop everything and get it started. The pattern is Modern Puzzle by Christa Watson, and the blocks are 8-1/2″ unfinished. I’m not sure how large my quilt will be; I’m going to decide as I go.

So what about you? Are you chasing squirrels too? I’m looking forward to seeing your DrEAMi projects over at mmm!Quilts linky party tomorrow!

In the meantime, I’ll be busy at our quilt group’s quilt show this weekend. I have 5 quilts in the show (my first time entering quilts), so I’m excited.

Have a great weekend, my friends!

Wendy

Oh my…you’ve been dropping a lot of stuff and making it. I’m working on one now, but it’s going to take forever, I’m afraid.

I’ve made two modern puzzle quilts. I enjoyed making them. Members of my quild, Slap Happy Quilters. have also made them. Loking forward to seeing your finished quilt.

So many cute projects. I have never worked with hexies before. So many people make the cutest projects with them though. Have a great time at the show. Is it a juried show? I hope you share a ribbon with us next week!!

Hi Wendy! I have been just the opposite of doing any squirrels, but I sure am happy to see that someone is productive. I have a bag full of hexies somewhere that look similar to the ones you got from your friend. If I unearth them, I’m sending them your way, complete with the plastic template to make more! That is a mission Sue and I are going to embark on soon – cleaning out and organizing the sewing room closet. That is a task worthy of several days! I love your Pollen Pillow – I think you did a great job on the fussy cutting. Happy Friday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

  • My Sewful Retirement

All of your Dreami projects look great! Our quilt group in MD made a very scrappy modern puzzle quilt for raffle. It was a great beginner’s block for me! Good luck with the quilt show — 5 entries amazing!

Yep, I’m thinking when we’re ready for the retirement hotel, we can combine our stashes together. You know I love that guacamole green. I need to send you a photo of a quilt I made with my 30’s hexie flowers. I’m now sewing some big ones now and it is a forever project.

My goodness! You have lots of DrEAMis going on! I am amazed at the patience and precision it must take to make those tiny hexie flowers.

At this point in my quilting life, I think the squirrels are chasing me. Must be because I am more than a little nutty about the way I start new projects. Your hexie flowers are very pretty. I have a a stack of these to which I add one once in a while, but mostly I just take them out and enjoy the pretty colors and fabrics. Your guacamole quilt is lovely in its simplicity and choice of fabrics and lines … 🙂 Pat

I saw my first squirrel of the season yesterday. He must have been on his way to you. Isn’t it a joy to drop what you’ve been wading through and play? You’ve got some great projects on the go there, Guacamole is terrific- love the colours! And the hexies…And the modern puzzle… Have fun!

Looks like you are just living the DrEAMi life right now. I love the quac quilt—especially those hints of circles. Isn’t Dream Select batting wonderful for those little quilts? So luscious and smooth. I never tire of seeing hexie projects, so I can see why you took the baggie home. Modern Puzzles looks like fun. I’ve been wondering what to do with a fat eighth bundle. Think it could work for that? I,m trying to use the pieces efficiently. Have fun at the quilt show and be sure to share photos.
