Catching Up

Catching up is the perfect title for this post. Lately, it’s been a bit busy here at Pieceful Thoughts. Much of the activity revolved around moving our son and daughter out of our house over the weekend. They are not going far away, and the four of us are excited for them. Our other family member, however, is not so excited. Poor Wilbs is just plain confused, wondering where two of his favorite humans have gone.

The room mostly empty, Wilbs sits and waits, wondering when our son is coming back. If that wasn’t bad enough, we also sent our loveseat with them, and the big space on the floor of the living room is perplexing, too. He does have moments of perking up and tearing through the house, though, so we’re confident he’ll adjust as the days go by. Meanwhile, we’re giving him lots of love and attention.

To Do Tuesday 59

The last TDT post I wrote was back in April. I hadn’t realized it was that long. I just needed a break from the post writing, I think. During that time, I’ve revamped my to do list a bit, so it works better for me. Let’s see what’s up for me this week.

Start

  • Improv Tiles (4) – this is a small project I’m working on for my church
  • Hole in the Day – an art quilt BigJ has requested, due at end of month
  • Pieces of the Santa Fe Trail block for September
  • Monthly Color Challenge Block for September

Continue

  • Wonky Star Runner
  • Two and Four QAL – hosted by Katy Quilts and Wedding Dress Blue

I am making a Wonky Star runner for a classroom at my church. Here are the stars I’ve made.

I’m having some fun with these stars. The background fabric and the white fabric glow in the dark, so I keep taking them into a dark room to see! That slows the progress just a little 🙂

The Two and Four QAL is a scrappy quilt, so I pulled out some of my Kim Diehl/Jo Morton/reproduction fabrics for this one. There was a lot of cutting involved, but I’m caught up and ready for the next step.

Finish

  • Llama Mini Quilt – I need to sandwich this and get some quick quilting done.
  • QIS Challenge Quilt – this quilt needs to be quilted. The monochrome challenge has been an interesting one, and the quilt definitely turned out completely different than I had planned!
  • Playtime Plus – all that’s left is the binding

Finish

  • Red/Tan Quilt – prep for long arm
  • Choose backings for star quilt and Coreopsis quilt

Plan

  • Challenge Quilt – due November 1st

So that’s my current list for the week. I’ll be working on catching up on these projects, and see if I can cross a few off before next week.

I’ll be linking up with the To Do Tuesday crew over at Texas Quilt Gal today.

How about you? What are you catching up on this week?

Poor Wilb, hope he gets used to the changes soon. I think our spaniel is enjoying the quiet now that the kids have all gone back to school. He is delighted to see them when they get home though! Love the fabrics you’ve chosen for the QAL, beautiful!

Good morning, Wendy! Aww, sweet Wilbs. Your main peeps have your back. I’m so glad he can still tear around the house now and then, otherwise we’d all really worry. I didn’t realize it had been so long since you joined in TDT. Whatever format works for you! I don’t know that y’all had to take Labor Day literally. It sounds like everything went well. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

it is always fun to move the kids out into their own apartments or off to school – the house will be a little empty at first but you get used to it quickly – I wonder if yours will text as much as mine do – they haven’t lived at home in years of course but I still hear from them almost every day and sometimes at the same time – it is like one knows one is texting and starts two seconds later

Aw, poor WIlbur! He’s young and will adjust, but I’m sure he’s a bit lonely. I love those glow in the dark stars! What a fun quilt that will make 🙂

I hadn’t thought about how it would effect Wilbs, just remind him your kiddos will be back to visit and they’ll give him extra love then:) You do have a lot of projects going on, you fit right in with the rest of us, haha.

Poor Wilbur – I know he will bounce back. Every once in awhile I get John’s laundry and do it for him. Percy keeps looking for him the whole time it is here with a definite “the laundry is here, he should be too”. Your list looks like a good one. Still moving our son, his stuff was delivered to the apartment; we will both give him help for some time today. Good luck with your week!

Wow…what are you going to do with all that space? Our Matthew was living with us for about 3/4 of last year, and Smitty absolutely loves him. Smitty missed him when he was gone. When he was sick recently, he perked up quite a bit when Matthew came to dinner.

  • Needle and Foot

This is one long list Wendy – I would have to work at it 24/7 to get it done. How cool to have your kids moving out but still close by. That would be so much fun. Hope they settle in well and enjoy their new place!

That’s a really full list. I knew you hadn’t been posting on Tuesdays but you’ve been finishing things all along so I knew you were still quilting. It will be exciting to see some of the these finish. I laughed at the though of you finding a dark room to look at the stars. I think it would be the closet for me. Have one bedroom the grandkids put up those glow in the dark stars. It is interesting to see it at night when I’ve slept there on occasion. Hope Wilbs gets back to his cheerful self. Change is hard for all of us.

That picture of Wilbs kinda made my throat tighten up. Glad he’s getting extra pats and scritches. I like your list format! I’m looking forward to seeing what the art quilt is about. I’m still contemplating Melva’s QAL. I love the story, I love the blocks, so why not add another QAL? 😀 I’d be admiring that glow in the dark fabric myself. Probably use up all the glow in it by looking at it so much. 😉

Wow, that will be a big change for you and BigJ! Sounds nice that the kids aren’t too far away. And you must need a new couch, too – that’s always fun! I like the new format of your list. I think we’re all often in different stages with multiple projects and your format helps with that!

  • marissthequilter

Nice to hear your voice, Wendy. That is quite a “to do” list you have!
Moving is always stressful and I am glad that your children have not gone too far away. I am sure Wilbur is too! I am tickled by the idea of a glow in the dark quilt. What a lovely idea. Your other projects also look tantalizing. That stack of cut reproduction fabric is very impressive.

You have a lot going on, but an empty nest is awesome. How great that they are close by. Perhaps the cat would like to visit for a bit? Good luck with your list!

  • Carol Andrews

Oh you have been busy. Moving kids out is hard on our furry family members. Poor Wilbs. You’ll be missing all the fun you’ve been having doing things with your daughter! That is quite the list but a nice format for it! Good luck on moving things along and on catching up!

  • Kathy Swallows

Poor Wibs, it’s not fun when your favorite people relocate. The SITs roommate moved her cat into the new apartment this year. Poor Stella has quite the adjustment. She mainly hides under the couch and has loudly protested when her owner has gone home for the weekend and not taken her along. Both of the other roommates are poor substitutes apparently. Hope you’ve been able to make good progress on your to do list.

  • thedarlingdogwood

I love the background fabric for your wonky stars! And so fun that it glows in the dark. Poor Wilbs, I hope his other humans visit him frequently.
