Current State of Play

Happy Saturday, all! I thought I’d pop in and show you my current state of play in my quilt room. I’ve been out of town so much lately that I’ve hardly had much time at the sewing machine. Wilbs is not amused when he sees the suitcases come out. Just look at that face!

Anyway, back to my current state of play. Part of it is goofing around with Flat Chuck – a paper chick that arrived with my recent Missouri Star Quilt Company order. So I tucked him in the mess I’m creating, just for fun.

All those trimmings are from my playing around with Kona Pomegranite and Grunge in White Fog. I’m having fun with some improv units. Right now, I’m just stitching pieces together and putting them up on my little design wall.

My original plan for the Kona Pomegranite was going to be much smaller, so I only have a half yard of the fabric. Once I’ve used that up making these units, then I will start figuring out how to put the quilt top together. It’s fun and relaxing to stitch these up! And yes, I’m being inspired by Irene Roderick and her book, Improv Quilting

In case you’re wondering, I haven’t done anything further with that bright fabric slab in my last post. I’m still percolating ideas for it, or I may add to it. We’ll see.

I’ll be posting my challenge quilt for The Endeavourers on Monday, so I hope you stop back to see what I made.

How about you? What’s your current state of play?

Happy weekend, all!

Wendy

I can definitely tell by the look on Wilbs’ face that he’s not amused. I’m sure he is extra happy when he gets you home each time. And it’s delightful to see you having fun with improv. It’s pretty amazing how far you can stretch a half yard when you start getting creative with the small bits; I look forward to watching this evolve for you.

This phrase under the red and white… “once I’ve used that up…” Goodness, does that ever happen!? It seems like fabric is like the woman in the Bible who had just enough flour and oil for one more meal but there kept being just a little more.

I’m glad you’re enjoying some sewing time! Wilbs is just the best companion for you: curious, cuddly, and fun-loving.

Aw poor Wilbs. Any time a suitcase is open there is a cat in it, right? That pomegranate is just gorgeous. Glad you are having fun! My play this week is my usual dithering over fabric choices! 😀

Thanks for the link, as Irene is not on my improv quilting radar, Wendy. What you’ve achieved thus far looks like you will be having some big fun working the units into a quilt. Enjoy!

It’s still raining, so lots of indoor stuff for me today. Probably laundry. Won’t that poor kitty fit in the suitcase? He looks so sad! Hope the new sewing room is ready soon!

Wilbur is showing you that there’s plenty of room for him in your suitcase. He won’t be any trouble at all! Looking forward to seeing your Endeavourers piece. I get excited when it’s time for the reveal.

More trips other than KC? I can see you are having lots of fun with your improv. Does Wilbur give you the cold shoulder when you get home or does he love all over you and forgives you for leaving?

I hope you’ve had the chance to go someplace fun, and will share on the blog! I’m in the mood to get out of town, but things keep coming up that get in the way of that. Your play with the pomegranate and Grunge is fun and intriguing – looking forward to seeing what you do with those pieces!

So interesting to see your creations. Love that pomegranate color. And Wilbs seems like he would fit in the suitcase so better check twice before you close it up. Looking forward to Show and Tell on Monday.

Pomegranate… another word I had to look up…this fruit it is known here as well as paradise apple.. and I peel it in a bowl with water, so put it in the water and peel under water. If not, you have fun with painting your kitchen new. Pomegranate …. love this colour together with the off white grunge. For sure you will do a fabulous sewing project out of this. May be a big shopper! Love the mini pomegranate lines in the white fabric. Lovely curves! Don’t be afraid about curves, ladies! 🙂 Lovely that you order at Missouri Quilt comp. Love this bird. Mhhhh.. may be a companion for Wilbs, when you are out? This face says more than 1.000 words!! But you will be back soon. See you here next week!

Wilbur is not happy. Hope you are enjoying your travels. I love the pomegranate and the fog together and the great pieces you are making. Looking forward to Endeavors post on Monday…that is always interesting!

  • Kate

Wibbs definitely does not look amused! Hopefully the travel will slow down a bit soon so you can get in some solid stitching time. Love the red and white improv blocks.

  • Katherine Duquette

Improve blocks look like a great piece waiting to happen. If your travels take you to New Mexico let me know I would love to come share coffee and swap stories if you have an extra couple of hours. Albuquerque is central to most of the state and road trips are always an excuse for me to get away.

Fun fabric play with that Kona Pomegranate. It’s always a challenge when you have a limited amount of a color! Have fun tho.

Hi Wendy! Oh, my goodness, Wilbs is not happy. He is not one bit amused. No matter what you say, he’s not buying in. Oh, that pomegranate is just so darn pretty! Paired with that gray fog – ooh-la-la. Have fun and Happy Sunday. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
