Eleuthera Table Runner

My strips table runner has a name — Eleuthera, after an island in the Bahamas. My friend, Louise, from My Quilt Odyssey suggested it to me, and after I googled the island, I knew this would fit.

This little runner is a gift for a friend, who is leaving her current work and moving on to new horizons. She is a friend of our family, and we wish her the best. We know we will keep in touch, but just in case, I wanted to give her this little runner. Both of us get very tired of the dreary Minnesota winter right around February, so I thought this little runner with an island vibe would cheer her up.

(We are having very overcast, gloomy weather here today, so I had to opt for photos on my bed once again. Notice how close my [cheap] bedspread is so close in color to Kona Silver. One of my goals for the coming year should be a new bed quilt. Really.)

Anyway, the little runner is 12 inches by 28 inches. I decided to quilt it using wavy lines, thinking of cool waves lapping at the shore. The quilting is done using my walking foot and Aurifil 50 wt. thread in Scarab (#5005).

Rather than binding, I chose to put a facing on this quilt, which is a little different for a table runner. However, I wanted her to have the option of hanging it, so the facing has two triangles on one end for hanging. I used Kathleen McMusing‘s tutorial for the facing with triangle tabs.

The wavy lines look so cool on the back, I almost wish I had made it reversible.

The background fabric is Kona Silver, and the strips are solids from Paintbrush Studio.

All of my pre-Christmas projects are now complete. I am ready to hug my kids, laugh, open presents, eat and nap (maybe). Will there be a post on Monday? We’ll see! If not, I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I so appreciate you peeking into my little quilty world so faithfully. May you each have a wonderful holiday season!

Wendy
