I Like Thursdays #22

I’m here with I Like Thursdays #22, where I post things I’ve seen or noticed during the week that make me smile, laugh, or remind me to be grateful for the good things in life. I’m joining in with host LeeAnna of Not Afraid of Color and the other bloggers who join in. You can find all of us on LeeAnna’s site, if you are interested in reading more likes after you hear mine.

Sometimes these Thursday posts take me by surprise, sneaking up on me before I’ve had time to gather my thoughts. Sometimes weeks are more difficult, and it is necessary think about good things. It’s been a bit of both this week, so let’s take a peek at my list of likes.

Little Red Squirrels

When my kids were little, at lunchtime we would sit around the table and watch the birds and squirrels out our window. I would make up stories about the little red squirrels that scampered through our yard. One particular little squirrel in my story – Henry – always got into some kind of trouble. This little red brought back those memories when I saw him on my bird feeder this week.

I apologize for the fuzzy photo. I was trying to sneak up to the window and snap a quick photo. These little guys don’t sit still for very long. I love their white tummies – doesn’t it just want to make you snuggle him?

Most of you know how often I invite squirrels, or projects that just have to be made, into my quilt room (I even have a title relating to that), but I like the furry squirrels just as much. Their antics make me laugh.

Sunshine

Finally we have sunshine! That’s our Christmas tree, still hanging out on the deck, soaking up some sun. Don’t let this sunshiny photo fool you, though — it was very cold out there, only getting up to the mid-teens today.

Silly Coffee Mugs

I was browsing through a shop the other day and saw this mug.

Isn’t it cute?? This silly mug just made me smile. I really wanted it. I thought about it, but left it there. I have so many mugs (what do you do with the mugs you want to get rid of??) — but this one sure would’ve been fun for my morning coffee!

Sumo Mandarins

I’m a very picky fruit eater, but I wait for these every year. They are sweet, good, and easy to peel. Just looking at this photo makes my mouth water.

Just for Fun

Before I end this post, let’s have a little fun. Where’s Wilbur?

He was in fine form the other morning, attaining to new heights. Literally. Thankfully, no shelves were broken this time around! Life with Wilbur is rarely dull.

Happy Thursday, my friends! I hope you enjoyed my I Like Thursdays #22.

I’ve never heard of sumo mandarins. I might have to stop by Whole Foods in Santa Fe soon to see if they have them. Love that red squirrel. I have great memories of being at my sister’s house in Dearborn, MI, and watching all the squirrels out of her windows. Is that Wilbur in your cupboard? Have a great day, Mary.

Good Morning, Wendy! Like Mary, I’ve never heard of sumo mandarins. Hmm, I will look for them when grocery shopping. Ahh yes, oh Grand Poobah of Squirrels . . . of course you would like them. Welcome to my home you might as well say. And Wilbur! He is so much fun. ~smile~ Roseanne

I love that little spoon that comes with the mug – I have way too many mugs, I change off every couple days on what mugs I use to drink my coffee, some decorate the shelves, some are sitting in the cupboards – I really need to stop buying them and start giving some away

Fun! All of it!!! We have a saying in our family, “Red squirrel at morn, Grandpa be warned!!!” Because red squirrels would get into my Dad’s shed and make trouble! Those Sumo Mandarins were originally developed in Japan and are called Dekopon. March 1st is Dekopon Day!

Your picture of Wilbur made me laugh. Our very first cat (Benjamin) lived with us just one month when he got onto a glass shelf in the middle of the night. As he jumped off, he knocked the shelf off its supports and it fell to the ground and broke in the most horrendous crash you’ve ever heard. On the shelf was a teapot my mother brought me from China. He was very nearly my last cat, but I cooled off by morning, and all was well…except for the mess that still needed cleaning up.

I will donate the mugs I tire of to a thrift shop. I have too many at the moment as well. Those mandarins look wonderful. Are they similar to the Satsuma mandarins? They look like it? Ours are starting to be a little dry though so I think the season is ending? Squirrels are cute through a window but truth be told, they kind of give me the creeps (when I look too closely at them, they seem a bit rodent-ish to me. I love the idea of your story telling with the kids though – that is so sweet.

Hmmm – Just looked up the mandarins – they are different than what I was thinking of. Now I need to go find some!

I found Wilbur! He looks like a very entertaining companion! I like your red squirrel, too – how fun that you used to tell your kids those stories. Cute mug! I like the Sumos, too, but we don’t always get them around here. I’ll have to look for some! Have a great Thursday, Wendy!

I have not heard of those mandarins but I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for them. I have an array of mugs too and love choosing which one each day. I always look at mugs out and about but do have more than enough. The oldest get given to a local thrift store.
Wilbur is blending in quite well with the cupboards! They’re entertaining for sure.

Excellent likes. I think I had a red squirrel scold me yesterday. 🙂 Fun coffee mug! I have picked each of mine with care. Wilbur! What are you doing!

  • Su-sieee! Mac

I may have gone overboard getting rid of a lot of mugs and cups several years ago. I still have most of them though in the backyard taking on new roles as succulent planters and flower borders. 🙂

Red squirrels are awesome. I always mourn a little when one of the little guys chances the road outside. I enjoy watching them in the huge oak tree in my field. Cute mug. Wilbur is sweet. The old cat I inherited is not a jumper thank goodness.

where’s wilbur??? rotflmao! You’re so funny, and I bet your kids loved your impromptu stories. I love fun mugs, and move my collection from place to place but lordy how much can one drink?

When I lived in MN I had a red squirrel that would sit in my pine tree and stare at me through the window. Many nights we would watch TV “together”. I named him Tom (aka Peeping Tom). He would sometimes sit on the front steps and chatter at me when I went outside.
