Old and New Finishes

I have old and new finishes to show you today. One of my goals from last week was to finish another small UFO. I finally pulled out my bin, and pulled out this table runner.

Finally finished this table runner UFO - piecefulthoughts.com

This was a kit given to me years ago. I pieced the top way back then, and I can definitely see that my quilting has improved somewhat. Some of the trees sway just a bit, and more than one has its tip lopped off.

I cut down the size of the border on this runner (that seems to be a thing with me lately) because I wanted it to fit on our new dresser. This runner isn’t made well enough that I would gift it to anyone, and it definitely has a vintage look. It will be okay for our dresser, though,.

I did simple serpentine quilting in keeping with the swaying trees – ha!

Why I waited so long to finish this, I have no idea, but I’m glad to have this one off my list. The finished runner measures 14″ x 35″ and all the fabrics used were from my stash.

Leading up to the work on the runner, I cleaned and organized a bit. As I was tidying up some fabric scraps, I came across a few little bits of V&Co Ombre Confetti fabric that I used to make my Little Gem quilt. I had just a few short strips, and I immediately knew what I wanted to make with them.

A little soft curved piecing was quickly done. I used another piece of my franken batting (yay!), and a cut of Kona Peapod for the backing. For the quilting, I used Aurifil Spring Green (#1231) in 40 wt and just followed the flow of the curves. I followed along the curve on one side of the strip, then on the other side, meeting in the middle. If there was a gap, I left it to add some interest. This was very soothing to quilt with those soft, curvy lines. I finished it with binding in Kona Peapod.

This mini quilt measures 10.5″ x 16″. I’ll be able to tuck it here and there – on a dresser, small table, etc. It was a fun finish for my week!

It is appropriate that your trees sway a bit (!) and I am sure this runner is going to give you pleasure every day because it is lovely. I also like your curvy piece. You really are on a roll.

Swaying trees and cut off tops just like in nature! A lovely finish and the quilting adds to the piece!

I like the curvy quilting it looks good! The little table topper looks good and I like the way you quilted it – great way to use those bits of batting!

I love, love, love, peapod!! The quilting is just perfect for this piece. The swaying trees are just blowing in the wind;)

Two finishes in one post–yay!!! Yes, I see a reoccurring theme here with you cutting down borders–lol! Looks perfect. Wavy quilting really works with your straight trees. And of course we all love your Peapod quilt!!!

Well, if I looked at my older quilts I’d say that some of the work is better than now. But then some is not. It’s so fulfilling to finish something that has been hanging around for a while. The new little quilt (a placemat maybe?) is so lovely. I’m not sure your quilts came from the same fabric stash. The quilting is wonderful and it must make you happy every time you see it.

Isn’t it great to see how eclectic your taste is? I love both styles, vintage and modern. Well done with both of them. I haven’t made something small for the house in such a long while. It is time!!

Good for you finishing a way-back quilt project. Oh but your modern quilt really speaks to me. Love the colors, love, love the quilting. And pea pod is great. (Said the girl who wore a lime green dress and decided I really didn’t like that color so much. Fast forward and I really like it in quilting. … not clothes for me!)

WENDY! Both of these are fab. Trees do sway and tips get cut off. Oh well. I’m glad you can enjoy that runner – I love everything about it. And the V&Co ombre project is beyond fab. Those fabrics and your quilting is a great combination. It shows that you are having fun! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

That is such a fun mini! I have a LOT of extra strips of that ombré confetti from a previous project (along with a full jelly roll) and would love to put them to use. You’re sure getting lots of UFOs done lately too!

Just look at you go; two more finishes including a UFO! Love the serpentine quilting on your trees runner and the wavy quilting on your second one is perfect on the improv pieced curves.

The quilting actually looks like peapods because you left those bits of unquilted space. Serendipity! 🙂

So much fun! Great finishes – an old one and some scraps put to great use. I especially love the way the gaps were formed – intentional in a kind of sort of way!
