Pieceful Monday

I haven’t done a Pieceful Monday post in awhile, but today this post will be more about fabrics and pieces than anything else.

Pieceful Monday - Mostly Riley Blake fabrics (except for the solid pink), using these fabrics for a pattern test on a baby quilt - piecefulthoughts.com

My current projects have both been secret sewing, so I thought I’d show you the fabric I’m using for one of them. With the exception of the pink solid in this photo, the rest of the fabrics are from the Riley Blake Bliss and Bloom line. I picked them up at a local quilt shop, and I’m using them to test a quilt pattern for a fellow blogger. I’ll be posting more on that later and showing you the quilt.

I love to paper piece, and this little team of tools is a necessary part of the paper piecing arsenal. The latest addition to this foursome is the hera marker. It makes creasing the papers so easy! Credit for that tip goes to GoGoKim on Instagram. If you don’t follow her, you should. She has some great tips and tutorials, and her photos are just plain fun.

Pieceful Monday - My necessary tools for foundation paper piecing: small cutting mat, Add-a-Quarter ruler, hera marker, and small rotary cutter - piecefulthoughts.com

So here’s the team: my small cutting mat, Add-a-Quarter ruler, hera marker and small rotary cutter. Thankfully, I haven’t (so far) grabbed my rotary cutter to score the paper. I’m waiting for that to happen when I have part of the block sewn, because I do silly things like that when my mind wanders . . .

Playtime Plus QAL Fabrics

I’m very excited because I finally – finally!! – made a choice for my fabrics for the Playtime Plus QAL hosted by Sandra at mmm! Quilts. I’m a bit behind on this, but no worries, I’ll get caught up soon.

As I was pondering my fabrics, I thought “why not challenge myself a little, and see if I can take a modern quilt pattern and make it work with non-modern fabrics?” Hmm. And you know what? I have all the fabrics in my stash! I am very jazzed about that (yes, you can do the jazz hands now).

While many of you know that I like bright, bold colors, you may not know that I am a closet hoarder of Kim Diehl fabrics. Seriously. I love the deep, dark, intense colors of her fabrics. Close behind that is my love of Jo Morton fabrics, for the same reason.

The orange/rust Jo Morton fabric on the bottom will be the large plus, the other background will be a Kim Diehl cream (that I forgot to add in to the grouping), and those lovely Kim Diehl fat quarters that I have had for, well, longer than I want to tell you. The cream fabric in the foreground of the picture is my ironing cover, so ignore that.

I’m very excited to get to work on my Positively Autumn quilt. If all goes well, I just may be cuddling under it this fall!

Fireburst Mystery Quilt Fabrics

I’ve also chosen my fabrics for the Fireburst Mystery Quilt hosted by Tish at TishnWonderland. I ordered them from Bernie at Needle and Foot, but they are not one of the colorways she made up for the QAL. I’ll post a picture of the fabrics when they come.

What about you? What are you excited about on this Pieceful Monday? Tell me about it!

I love your Kim Diel fabrics – I hoard her fabric as well as Kansas Troubles. My goal is to one day create a bed quilt for us using those fabrics – I love the rich colors!
Looks like you have plenty of projects to keep busy with, I’m looking forward to your updates. Happy Monday!

I keep telling myself to get a Herra Marker and never think of it when I am ordering things, maybe this summer if I actually go in and out of some shops while traveling I will remember if I see one.

I am like you while I love the modern, bright, fun colors-I still love Kansas Troubles! Good to have both in our stash to keep any boredom away, not that quilting is boring!! I still have not taken time to pick fabrics for either of those QAL’s. Today I need to decide on a pattern and make my pillow for IB challenge. Tomorrow quilt a donation for H2H and then maybe back to a new project I started Saturday!!!

It will be so much fun to see the plus quilt in the traditional fabrics. I am sure it will work!

    Hi Wendy,
Ooh, those Riley Blake fabrics you selected for your secret project are SEW nice! I do not enjoy paper piecing. Let me add yet, because I’m sure if the right project came along I would fall in love with it again. I did enjoy it once – but fell away from it. Jazz hands are definitely warranted – love your fabric choices and I am 100% sure it will be fabulous when complete. I cannot wait to see it as it goes together! ~smile~ Roseanne

It’s hard to type because my jazz hands are jazzing 🙂 I LOVE your fabrics for Sandra’s QAL! It’s going to be beautiful! And now you have me super excited to see what you picked from Bernie’s shop. She has a ton of pretty fabrics over there!

Oo, pretty fabric pull for the Plus Along! I’m tempted by those deep autumnals, too, but try hard to resist. Your quilt will be gorgeous, no doubt 🙂

I’ve been piecing quite a bit this week, Monday onwards. I got motivated to move some UFOs forward by adding borders and piecing backings. However, I am really procrastinating with my blogging since it’s all difficult to photograph. The wind is relentless and so going outside with giant pieces of fabric is kinda pointless!

The pinks and greens are so springy. And as much as love the autumn weather, smell of cinnamon and the nip in the air, the fall colors of beige, brown and blah are not my thing. More for you, I guess :-p Secret sewing??? You have my attention 🙂
