Block Parade

I have a mini block parade to show you today. The flowers in the above photo have nothing to do with the block parade, but they look rather celebratory, don’t they? They are so pretty at this time of year!

Squirrel!

If you’ve followed my blog for any length of time, you know I love squirrels, both the animal kind and the quilty diversion kind. So when Sandra of Sandra Healy Designs put out a call for testing this block, I couldn’t type yes fast enough. It was so much fun to stitch up. I was grinning the whole way through. I know several of you who really need to make this block – you know who you are!

I notice the second acorn got cut off in the photo, because someone else was sticking his toes in. He likes watching the squirrels outdoors and in, too!

Not long after she released the squirrel pattern, Sandra sent this cute Toadstool pattern along. It was fun to play with fabrics. I used some leftover ombré Fairy Dust fabric (V&Co) for the tops. Both patterns are available in Sandra’s shop here

How about a little Llama Drama?

I’m making some simple quilt blocks for the classroom doors at our church. I can’t help grinning whenever I make one of these llama blocks. The pattern is by Sew Fresh Quilts. I’ve made two others, which you can see here and here. Each one has its own personality. It’s a fun way to play with some fat quarters or scraps.

Meet Alphie.

Alphie, my third llama block made from a pattern by Sew Fresh Quilts - piecefulthoughts.com

Someday I may need to make an entire llama quilt – how fun would that be?!

And that’s my mini Block Parade for today, just to catch you up on what I’ve been working on in my quilt room. Of course, there’s other quilt projects happening too, some of which you’ve seen on my Instagram feed (@piecefulwendy). I have an eclectic mix of projects, and I’m enjoying each one!

Coming up soon will be my 2021 Monthly Color Challenge block, so be watching for that!

Happy Stitching!

Wendy

Hi Wendy! Aww, Alphie is almost as cute as Wibls . . . almost. He’s sitting so nice by the squirrel, which is adorable, by the way. Your hydrangeas are gorgeous! We used to have them at our previous house and I miss them. I think a llama quilt would be oodles of fun – maybe we need to do that?!! {{Hugs}} Thanks for all the eye candy. ~smile~ Roseanne

Cute blocks — loads of fun! The surprise is how cute toadstools can be! Using the ombré fairy dust was inspired <3

Ooooo I like that squirrel! That’s the best representation of one I’ve seen. Wilb’s paws = best part of the photo. 😉 Each one of your llamas is beautiful! I’d love to see how they look on the classroom doors, and yes, you should make a quilt of them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen hydrangeas that full. You must be doing something right.

I was going to ask what those white flowers are, but then I read Roseanne’s comment! They are beautiful! You know I love that squirrel – I’m probably going to have to get that pattern. I think you’ve been having lots of fun!

  • Brenda @ Songbird Designs

So cute, Wendy! Love them all. Really love that white hydrangea! I think I need to make that squirrel block! LOL

Beautiful Block Parade. Can’t pick a favorite but the squirrel is so realistic and Wilbs’ foot was a bonus. The llama is just darling and makes me want to make one or two as well.

I also have that llama pattern but haven’t yet made a block – I have a sister who loves llama’s so I really need to get a block made and sent to her. Love the squirrel and mushrooms blocks – you’re getting to be almost as good an enabler as Sandra W!

Very cute squirrel block!!! Yup it’s very cute!
And even though you may think I need to make this block, I have enough squirrels hanging around that one more will not help! 🙂

  • Sandi

I love your squirrel, it is so cute!! Your Llama is beautiful, I’m going to eventually make one for myself too! Hugs,

  • Quilting is in my Blood

I really like all these blocks, but I’m partial to the llama because I love llama stuff. Even my morning coffee cup has a llama on it! I have Lorna’s pattern and it is on my Someday list. I think I will have to buy that squirrel pattern and make a pillow for my niece who is a super fan of squirrels.

  • Carol Andrews

Oh I do love the fabric fun in your parade of blocks! That llama is priceless and who can say NO to another squirrel or even toadstools! Now I’m heading over to Sandra’s. Thanks Wendy. It just might have become a DrEAMI project. 😉
