March Wrap Up

I have a little March Wrap Up to share with you today. While I haven’t been posting much on my blog for the month of March, I’ve been participating in the Instagram QuiltFest and posting there daily. It’s been fun to post my thoughts on each day’s theme, but I’m glad the month is done!

Meanwhile, I’ve been keeping up on a few ongoing projects here at Pieceful Thoughts, so I thought I’d share a March Wrap Up so you can see where I’m at.

Diatom Quilt Along

The Diatom Quilt Along, hosted and designed by Quilting JetGirl, has been a very enjoyable project for me. The blocks go together easily and are finished pretty quickly. I have six blocks completed, and I’ll be working on Block 7 soon. Here are Blocks 1-4.

And Blocks 5 and 6.

I’m really wishing I had that big design wall now, so I could see these blocks all together!

Dreamlines Project 2023

The Dreamlines Project is a monthly art project for those who subscribe to Serendipity Patchwork & Quilting newsletter with Brenda Gael Smith. This month’s project was to make improv diamond strips. I’ve only made three, but will definitely make a few more. They are much faster to make than I thought they would be! Here are all of the strips I’ve made for January through March.

It’s a colorful bunch! I will just keep making each month’s project, then worry about the layout at the end of the year. I leave them untrimmed until I put the quilt top together.

100 Days of Stitching

The Hundred Day Stitch Book is a sew along offered by Ann Wood Handmade. The idea is to sew for 15 minutes each day for 100 days, stitching up fabric pages, and then making them into a book. I have fallen way behind on this one, but I’m still stitching up my pages. I finished the handwork on these two oddballs, and enjoyed the quietness of the stitching.

Most of the thread I’m using is Aurifil 12 wt, which is very soothing to pull through the fabric. I had no plan with these two, I just played a bit, adding stitches here and there. I’ll show you a few more pages soon!

Tuxedo’s Tales – Wilbs’ Style

Cat, with shamrocks in his mouth, a beehive on his head, and bees buzzing around him - piecefulthoughts.com

Wilbs had fun helping me choose wool pieces and thread for the March block. He preferred the bright green shamrocks (matches his eyes, he said) and the purple-y variegated thread for the clover. I’m using a 10″ layer cake of black fabric for the backgrounds; this block hasn’t been trimmed yet.

SAHRR Winners!

I can’t think of a better way to wrap up a month than to celebrate the winners of the prizes from the Stay at Home Round Robin Sew Along (SAHRR)! We had so many quilting along with us this year, which made it so much fun. Congrats to all the winners, and many thanks to Quilting Gail for all her work on this fun event!

Oh my gosh…cute projects. I love the lines, and your Tuxedo block is adorable. I like the orange houndstooth you’re using for Wilbur. Very cute.

The Diatom one is certainly coming along beautifully. Such a different color palette for you though!
The Dreamlines are just yummy! I cannot wait to see what they’ll become a part of.

I am loving those colors on your Diatom blocks. Not my usual picks but they look beautiful together, can’t wait to see that finish!

Hi Wendy! A fitting end to the month by sharing all this eye candy with us. Your Diatom blocks are looking good, Mr. Kotter. And the Dreamlines look like fun! Happy Friday to you as well. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Looks like you’ve been having lots of fun sewing, even if your new studio isn’t quite ready yet! I love those Diatom blocks – especially #5. It’s a really neat design! I’ve only made one of the March Dreamlines strips, but I enjoyed putting it together – maybe I’ll make another one this afternoon!

I like the projects you show this week. I am especially intrigued by the 100-day stitch book, which feels like a good one for me to try – first I finish my 100-day photos to art object challenge.

  • Katherine Duquette

You had a busy sewing month. Thank you for posting winners and pics of your projects. Your posts are always interesting.

Contratulation to all winners!! And – yes – thanks and applaus to Gail – initiator (hope the word works…), thanks to the sponsors aaaaand big thanks for Wendy to communicate and motivate. The first month of a year are so important to have success and fun and Q1 is done. Spring will come soon … we all need sun and energy. But I am really happy that we had much rain …to dry last year(s). But happy and sunny easter days will be super.
The diatom quilt will look fantastic as all of your work. Will be interesting what we get in April from Dreamline.
within this minute I got the idea what to do with the stripes. Have a new Yoga mat ..and need a big bag..
Thanks for sharing the picture of the stripes. You write and sew so diligently – thanks for motivation. Have a great week-end!

You have been busy! Love your Diatom blocks, the grunge is so nice with these blocks. Love the improve piece, I may have to sign up for that once I get through may QALs – mid summer. It will be fun to see how that grows. You are doing fine on the book pages, too. I love the wool Wilbs, just perfect.

Your Diatom blocks are really nice, and I love the diamond improvs – really adds to that pretty design. Of course I’m in love with the Wilbs block – such great colors. I’m so happy for the SAHRR winners!

You have some fun projects going! I was interesting in the 100 Days of Stitching but had too much else going…maybe another time. And your Diatom is looking great!
