Summer Fun

We’re having some summer fun today with LeeAnna and the rest of us over at Not Afraid of Color who join in for our usual I Like Thursday posts. Usually we share things we see during the week that bring us joy, a new discovery, or something we want to share with the group. We’re trying something new lately – LeeAnna is giving us a topic to write about, and this week it’s some summer fun – sharing what we wear during the summer months.

I’m a home body, so I don’t really go out a lot, even during the summer. When I do, I’m usually wearing a pair of crops, a sleeveless top, and sandals. I’m a pretty casual gal, so that’s my usual go to outfit.

When I’m home and in my quilt room, you’ll usually find me in a t-shirt and yoga capris. Here’s a photo of one of my current favorite t-shirts. I have a few of these snarky t-shirts that I only wear at home. I call it my quilting uniform.

Quilting t-shirt I found on Etsy - piecefulthoughts.com

I found this one on Etsy, and thought it was fun and colorful. It kind of sums it up, doesn’t it?

I buy my yoga capris at Duluth Trading (no affiliation). You can see the type of capri I wear here. I like them not only for their comfort, but also because of the side pocket. If I do wear them on a walk, I have a place to carry my phone or keys. They wash and wear well.

My Birkenstock collection - piecefulthoughts.com

My sandal of choice are Birkenstocks (no affiliation). I like them for their comfort – I’d wear them all year round if I could.

When I’m home and indoors, I’m always barefoot, or in stockingfeet. I don’t like wearing shoes in the house. Honestly, I’d go barefoot year round if I could! Birkies are the next best thing to barefoot, in my opinion!

So, what am I quilting while wearing such a snazzy get-up? I’m currently playing with these fabrics, but that’s all I can tell you!

The Kona Pickle has taken center stage once again. I’m hoping this turns out with these bold, fun colors!

Where’s Wilbs???

The Weekly Wilbs - piecefulthoughts.com

Wilbs was having his own form of summer fun the other night. Can you see him? This is the result of a serious case of the zoomies, racing through the house, up on the counter and then up a bit higher! Still can’t find him? Here’s a closer view.

No worries, he can get down from there just fine. Notice that all I have on the shelf are wooden items; that way, if any get knocked down, I don’t have to worry about them breaking. He never knocks things down, though. I’m surprised at how nimble he is.

I hope you are enjoying some summer fun that takes you to new heights, too! If you are interested in seeing what the rest of the group wears during the summer, go to Not Afraid of Color, where you can find all of the links to our posts. If you do visit the others, please leave a comment, too! We love to hear from you!

I’m all for comfort too. Love your t shirt! Says it all. I spotted Wilbs ok, very energetic. Those fabrics look great fun.I’m barefoot too, linen trousers and loose blouse, I have chores to do.

Your foliage in that top photo is gorgeous, this year? I bought some for the first time in years and it is doing well. Wilbs looks like he is trying to figure out if he would fit above your kitchen curio shelf. How does he get up on top of the door shelf anyway? Your fabric pull is to die for!

You and I are twins in the summer – yoga pants all the way. I haven’t found any to replace my ragged ones that are 10+ years old, so I’ll check out Duluth – I like the idea of a pocket. Love the tee! Oh Wilbs, you are like my Toby who loves to get on top of the kitchen cabinets.

I’m in for the bare feet! When I first saw the LR photo I saw Wilbs right away – but thought he was a stuffed bobcat, lol. He’s definitely a Wonder Cat!

Wilbs looks like he’s contemplating jumping to the next display cabinet over!?! Does he do that??? I do love Birks, too. That t-shirt–haha! Colorful fabric selection!!!

I knew right where to look for Wilbur. We get that on the inside of the RV when they fly up to the top of the slides. I use to wear Birkenstocks all the time when I was working. I’ve always said they are part of the uniform for social workers.

I had to look and look to see Wilbs there. Our Ned is not adventurous at all…we are starting to call him Nervous Ned.
Love your summer attire and that saying. One of my daughters wears only Birkenstocks. Now she says she has to wear hers in a bit to make them comfy…do you find that?
Happy playing with that fabric, Wendy.

That’s a great t-shirt – love it! And I’m going to have to check out those yoga capris – they look comfy. What a pretty fabric pull, too! It’s so summery. Wilbur is amazingly adventurous! Do you ever lose him when he is up high somewhere like that?

  • Laura

I spotted Wilbs right away! Cats like to look down on the rest of us! Ha, ha!
Barefoot in summer, socks in winter! Lots and lots of loose fitting t-shirts! 🙂

  • Katherine Duquette

Those are some vivid colors your working with. If I could attach a picture of my shoes of choice you would see bright yellow crocs. Previous pairs were white, pink, grey and green.
I did wear Birkenstock for a while but the got pricey.
    Happy sewing.

Summer clothes: t-shirts and capris. A few extra pounds have made things a little tight (sad face). Wilbs is the great adventurer. I used to go barefoot or sandals all the way. Now with chronic plantar fascitis I need good supportive tennies with lots of padding in the sole. Can’t wait to see what you make with those pretty colors!!

yassss me and birks! Love the shirt! I like capris/crops but it’s been just too hot for them. Today I have on yoga pants because it’s below 80 mercifully. Wilbur is nimble… I’d blunder around and knock things down betcha

Certainly do understand the “zoomies”! Our word is “frap-ing”. “Frantic Random Activity Pattern”! I love that t-shirt!! Read a article the other days, that said none of us should wear capris! I say, “bunk”! ! I like them!

  • Sally

Excellent T-shirt. LOL. Snarky is good. And beautiful color fabric you’re playing with. I would have guessed Wilbur was in the box, not up on that ledge! Zoomies are the best!

  • rl2b2017

Hi Wendy! Those capris look comfy and very similar to what I wear only mine have two pockets. Wilbs!! What could you possibly want way up there?!! I’m glad you can get down without issue. Birkenstocks! I used to wear them but find I’m prone to plantar fasciitis so I mostly skip sandals of all types. That doesn’t keep me from getting a pedi though! HAHA! Happy Friday to you. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

‘Love that “snarky t shirt”. I also dress very casual while at home. Looking forward to seeing what you create with those bright fabrics.

What a cat LOL – I spotted him. Thanks for mentioning the pants – I needed to order some new one – I love Duluth Trading Center!! all my yoga type pants come from them and I love that they add pockets

  • jaybirdinohio

Right there with you on the Birks and Duluth pants. FYI: I have a pair of “winter” Birks – they’re closed-toe, and with wool socks they’re my winter go-to. I only wear sneaks when I haven’t had a pedicure in awhile!

  • Sue Hoover

I’m a birkie girl too! I wear the sandals all summer long. Once the weather cools, I wear the clogs with my knitted socks. My Polly would love to enjoy zoomies with Wilbs. She likes going to new heights as well!
