Pieceful Life

Thursday Musings

I have some Thursday musings to share with you today. I’m joining LeeAnna over at Not Afraid of Color and the rest of the crew listed on her page. We join up each week and share things we’re grateful for, that amuse us, or that we’ve noticed throughout the week. I missed last week, so I’ve been waiting to post today.

Before we removed our Christmas tree from the deck, I was amused by the antics of the squirrels. We would sprinkle birdseed in the tree for both the birds and the squirrels. It was so funny to look up and see the tree trembling, then to see a squirrel pop out a second later.

Happy mail, fabric from a friend - piecefulthoughts.com

I got happy mail this week – a little fabric fun from a friend. I’m already thinking about what I can make! There’s a little panel with my initial on it, with a piece of coordinating fabric. Underneath that is a panel of country houses.

Made crockpot French Onion soup for dinner - piecefulthoughts.com

The last time I went grocery shopping, I picked up a bag of onions thinking we were out. When I got home, I discovered I had already replenished my onion supply. Time for some French Onion soup, and with today’s weather, soup is perfect for dinner. I made it in the crockpot using this recipe. It was so simple to make, and was so tasty.

Vintage Marx Mickie and Minnie Ramp Toy - piecefulthoughts.com

It’s funny what turns up during spring cleaning! I’ve had this little ramp toy for as long as I can remember. I have no idea where I got it, but I’ve always thought it was fun. Set it on a book, or board, tilt it just a bit, and Mickie & Minnie wobble down the hill. The toy is about 3″ tall.

The Weekly Wilbs

Wilbs enjoying his new window hammock - piecefulthoughts.com

Wilbs is very grateful to Smitty and Sadie from Three Cats Ranch for encouraging me to get Wilbs a window hammock. He’s still getting used to it, but thinks that view is going to be a good one this summer.

So just a few Thursday musings today here at Pieceful Thoughts. Hope you enjoyed them!

I like Mickie and Minnie they are cute, I have never seen any like it before. Wilbs finally has his throne..

Hi Wendy! Aww, Wilbs looks quite comfy on his window hammock. I’d like to see him get into it – they can jump onto anything but that looks difficult (to me, anyway). Love the Mickey and Minnie toy! D&A would be fascinated by that. They love Mickey! Can’t wait to see what you do with the “W”. It’s funny – I thought of flying the W (Cubs) instead of your name. Duh! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I like the cat hammock – years ago when we had a cat in the house she absoultely ruined the windowsill will claw marks from when she would jump up to the sun in the window. you know for some reason I have never made onion soup – I don’t know why as I do like it and would taste so much better than canned.

That fabric haul from your friend looks intriguing. We bought onions and gruyere 2 weeks ago to make French onion soup and forgot about it – thanks for the reminder! I’ve looked at those hammocks so many times on Amazon and Chewy and hesitated because two of my kitties are, shall we say, rather “large-boned”, and I was concerned the suction cups would not hold them. I may have to look again since Wilbur recommends them. 😉

I got my fabric and panel too! I’ll be watching what you do, since I am idea challenged. I think I would like a window hammock like W’s.

Ha! That’s funny about the squirrels! I would definitely be entertained! I have a love-hate thing going on with our squirrels–they’re cute and funny but they eat all the birds’ feed so I finally put coconut oil on the hook that the feeder was hanging on and now I thoroughly enjoy watching them go up a bit….and then slide back down with a complete “fail” or confused look on their faces! Also the little nippers get into my garden sometimes but that’s ok, there’s plenty to share there. French onion soup? Oh, yes please!!! I love Wilb’s view–I’d hang out there, too, Kitty! Is that a creek I see in the woods? Fun post–I kinda miss doing these!

Oh boy I hope those suction cups don’t come off the window, LOL. I love that you were using your tree as a bird/squirrel feeder:)

  • Barbara J Stanbro

Oh, I’m happy Wilbur likes his hammock. Re those suction cups, Smitty weights 17 pounds, and ours have never, ever, ever come down. Not once. Happy napping. The soup looks so good. Just last night I told Mike I think French Onion Soup will be on our menu coming up real soon.

I love the squirrel in the tree and can imagine how entertaining it was to watch the action. Wilburs hammock is the “cat’s meow”! Is that a bird feeder out the window on the left? Getting fabric is always a treat and I’m sure you will find something wonderful to do with it.

All lovely Wendy. I love Wilbs perch with that wonderful view, pleasing to cats and humans. I too love French onion soup and find it a nourishing kind of wintry treat. Squishy mail is the best! Enjoy your weekend, Wendy.

  • Diann@ Little Penguin Quilts

That looks like a great hammock and window viewpoint for Wilbs! French onion soup sounds yummy, too. Fun fabric mail is the best – I’ll enjoy seeing what you do with it! The Mickey and Minnie toy is so cute! Who knows how old it is, but it’s kind of hilarious to know that things from earlier in our lives are now considered vintage.

  • Sandra

I just love that hammock! I’ve seen them at the Humane Society and at a kennel and always thought they are just the coolest. I love French onion soup but I’m going to have to find a vegetarian recipe because I can’t do the beef broth part and unsure whether vegetable broth will cut it if you know what I mean.

  • Carol Andrews

Wendy your happy mail looks like too much fun! I can just imagine the squirrels popping out of the tree. Wilbs will love his hammock as much as we enjoy seeing him. Your soup looks wonderful and has me drooling.

  • Patricia Evans

Wilbs looks like he’s adapting to the window hammock quite well. Sadie and Smitty sure seem to ejoy theirs. I love French Onion Soup but usually only have it at a restaurant. It’s often too salty for my taste so I really don’t order it any more. Don’t think I’ve ever made it myself. Have fun playing with your new gifts.

Fun things! Spreading seeds for the squirrels….brilliant. I love the hammock for Wilbur – so perfect for a cat. That ramp toy is fun and always interesting when we run across
