To Do Tuesday 50

It’s time for me to write my To Do Tuesday 50 post and share it with you today. I’ll be linking it up with ChrisKnits, the new host for this linky party. Many thanks to Roseanne and Sue (Home Sewn by Us) for starting this linky and hosting it so well over the past years. While I’m sorry to see them hand off the linky, I’m glad I’ll still be able to keep in touch with them.

Last week’s list:

  • Deli Geese
  • Stay at Home Round Robin
  • Test Block

I have been completely ignoring my Deli Geese blocks. Truth is, I really am perplexed by the layout of these blocks. I thought that there would be a secondary design that would come forward once I started playing with the layout, but there doesn’t appear to be. So I’m just trying to come up with a layout that works. This is the current version – sorry for the poor photo – I have no floor space to get a decent photo.

My current layout of the Deli Geese blocks. Not loving it - piecefulthoughts.com

It’s just a bit of a jumbled mess. So it’s on time out while I work on other projects. I could split the 24 blocks into sets of 12 and make two small quilts, so I may play with that idea at some point.

My Stay at Home Round Robin quilt has the fifth border added. I need to get to work on the border for next week; ideas are brewing.

To be honest, I’ve lost a bit of my sewjo this week, partly due to it being so incredibly cold here (yesterday morning at 6 am the temp was -26) and my quilt room space heater died. We did manage to keep our quilt room/office space warm enough, but I still wasn’t in the mood to sew much. The replacement space heater has arrived, so we’ll see if this one lasts longer!

I did finish two test blocks. I can show you one of them – the other hasn’t been released yet.

Bunny quilt block designed by Sandra Healy Designs - piecefulthoughts.com

How cute is this?! This block is designed and available from Sandra Healy Designs – just in time for Easter. It is a great pattern for using up little scraps, and would make a fun pillow, table runner, baby quilt, mini wall quilt. I had to make a pink bunny using some of my Grunge fabric in my stash. The background fabric is leftover scraps from a quilt back, and I bought that fabric from Bernie at Needle & Foot. This pattern goes together quickly, so it would be a good one to have in your stash for those last minute projects, etc.

Here’s what I’ll be working on this week:

  • SAHRR – Border 6
  • Project Quilting 12.4
  • Fika Quilt

Most of my focus this week will be on the Round Robin border and finishing the Project Quilting 12.4 challenge. I’m halfway done with the Project Quilting piece, but it’s a bit more complicated than my other challenge pieces. Hoping to finish the top today.

That’s it for my weekly list and for this To Do Tuesday 50 post. Happy stitching, all!

For some reason I’m living in a bubble where it is winter but not WINTER – not the way so much of the country is experiencing it. I hope it warms up a bit because that is really TOO COLD. Those Deli Geese blocks are very bright and have a lot going on in them. Maybe sashing would make them play nice. The pink bunny is so cute and the background worked nicely. Yeah for leftovers! Your round robing quilt continues to amaze. Have a great week.

The bunny is simply so sweet! I might have mentioned before, but how about a sashing for the deli geese to calm them. I would use your light background and add colored cornerstone.

Hi Wendy! Aww, thanks for the sweet words. We’ll miss hosting To-Do but will join in. I know what the issue with Deli Geese is – your fully qualified helper, Wilbs, isn’t present. I am certain he has excellent advice on the layout for this quilt top. What a cute bunny block and perfect for the upcoming holiday. Good luck with this week’s list. ~smile~ Roseanne

That’s cold! We’ve been experiencing it, too, although maybe not quite that bad. I’m ready for a warm-up! Your Deli Geese blocks are a lot of pretty color! Maybe they need some sashing? Isn’t that bunny cute?! Looking forward to seeing your next PQ finish!

OWO cute bunny. Don’t you consider the possibility ofadding a neutral sashing to the Deli blocks?
Love the last round with the wonky stars.
    Stay safe and warm.

Hi Wendy. Some weeks you just need to slow down and think things through. This might just be one of those weeks. It’s a good thing you have a shorter list this week. The Bunny block is so cute. Your SAHRR is just beautiful. I love the colours and vividness of your Deli blocks, but maybe a neutral sashing might tone it down. 😉

I ws also thinking sashing might help your Deli blocks. They may need to have frames to let them frame rather than muddling into its neighbor. The bunny is way too cute. I’ve seen nice bunnies but this one really speaks to me. But, do I need a bunny block…. Hope you figure out what you want to do with Deli blocks… they are too cool to be lost in the UFO pile for a while.

I love your deli geese blocks…so bright, cheery!! I hope you are warmer now and can get your sewing mojo back soon. That little bunny is adorable! I saw that on Sandra’s blog. It is just sew very cute!!

  • Quilting is in my Blood

That bunny is the cutest! I may have to make one some day—maybe not for this Spring. Your pink grunge is such a great choice. The Deli Geese blocks do look busy next to each other. Sashing is certainly an option or possibly like you said, splitting them up into two quilts might be your best best especially if you can combine them with some mostly solid blocks and/or sashing.

  • marissthequilter

For someone who has lost their sewjo you have accomplished a lot. That bunny is delightful and the background speckled fabric adds a sparkly touch. Strength with the deli geese. There is such a lot of neat piecing in it. I am sure the layout will suddenly click into place

That Deli Geese is so colorful!!! SAHRR–love the tiny wonky stars!!! And that bunny is the cutest–perfect background!!!

  • Chrisknits

Sounds like you have lots on your plate, not a good time to lose the Mojo, so hope you find it with the new heater! Thanks for linking up with To-Do!

  • Preeti Harris

Oh Wendy, you have plenty to show even if you have lost your sewing mojo. I am sure your sewjo just needs a hot bevarage and it will be raring to go again. The bunny is just too adorable!!!

  • Kathleen McCormick

So there are lots of 4 patches, you might have to rearrange to get lights and darks in the Deli Geese….and they may show up better once sewn. I chalk things like this up as lessons learned. Its Wednesday and I am just reading this, so that tells you how fast I am moving….and now I have some Quilt Con stuff to attend to! Was hoping to get to try my embroidery unit before we go to MA but its looking less promising.

I hope you warm up soon, actually it would be nice for the weather to just warm up! I’ve had a space heater running for weeks for my half bath to keep pipes from freezing. Hate to see what that electric bill will be! Love your patriotic RR. And that bunny is adorable! Idea – how about some sashing between the Deli Geese blocks? Hope you have fun playing with the layout.

It has been hard to sew with all the cold. Due the power grid instablity and shortage of natural gas, we’ve been asked to keep the thermostat at a low temperature. My sewing room is on the northwest corner of the house farthest from the heaters, so it’s the coldest room in the house. Even having the iron on didn’t help. Hopefully you’ve warmed up some, still have power and have already made a good dent on this week’s to do list.
