Two Finishes

Hello friends! I have two finishes to show you today. Both of these came about when I was moving from one room to the other. I should move around more often; I find things and actually decide to finish them!

The first finish is just a small baby blanket (no quilting, so blanket??) out of two pieces of Minky. I just realized I didn’t take a photo of the other side of it, which is a pretty green. It measures 30″ square and is soft and cuddly. It was much easier to cut the fabric now that I have better space to do so. That’s my excuse for not getting this done sooner! I have no plans for this, but nice to have it on hand for baby showers or gifts.

The second project is a quick tablerunner. I had left over jolly bar cuts from this quilt and this bag. A jolly bar is a precut from The Fat Quarter Shop that measures 5″ x 10″. I also had some Kona Snow charm squares that needed to be used. I combined the two into this quick design for a tablerunner.

I pieced a few batting scraps together, and then pieced the backing fabric from leftover strips of the backing for the Meringue quilt. For the quilting, I used a very light blue thread and did a quick serpentine stitch across the width of the runner, spacing them about 2″ apart.

Here’s a peek at the back.

I was pretty excited to find just enough of the grey print to use for the binding, too. This project took care of quite a bit of those blue/white scraps. I have just a few pieces left for a small project. This tablerunner may end up as a gift, or I may donate it to the Silent Auction for our quilt show in April.

In other news, with the colder months coming soon, I decided to get some insulated curtains for my quilt room to block the cold air from the patio doors.

BigJ said he was impressed that I matched the curtains to the improv quilt blocks above the door. Umm – I didn’t?? Hahaha. It just happened that they match! Those curtains though – they are so wrinkled! I tried ironing them, gave up and washed and dried them, and they came out with the same wrinkles! So I hung them and am hoping that maybe the fabric will relax a bit? Sigh.

With all that excitement Wilbs decided he needed to take a nap. I got him a new cat bed recently and he loves it. He likes to curl up and it keeps him cozy and warm. He actually prefers it to my lap in the evenings – I’m not sure how I feel about that. I still get plenty of nuzzles and affection, though, so no worries.

That’s my two finishes I wanted to share with you. How about you? Does moving things around cause you to finish projects too?

Happy stitching, all!

Wendy

I wish I also had such a cosy bed in which to nap. Lucky Wilbur!
    Both your finished are delightful.
And, life’s too short to worry about wrinkles in the curtains. Love the view from your quilt room BTW

  • Eva

Haha, live is to short to make any worry about wrinkels … not only in the curtains!!! Lol ..

I would not see, my eyes catches the pictures … and yes, this is a good colour, olive….
Matches perfect with turquise.. as aubergine….
The table runner is super and the back fabric… uhhhh, how nice!!!!
From mini left overs a book cover may be?
Love that you blog and give us an information about a very interesting side of Wilbs… sleeping not checking…. Mhhh….. should we awake him?
And yes, a good area with space makes a big difference for working.
    Love

Sometimes if you hang your curtains damp the wrinkles will come out as they dry. The weight from being wet and gravity are magic together ❤️

  • Cindy Pieters

Both your finishes are lovely, I especially like the table runner. Wilbs definitely looks like he likes his new comfy bed..

  • Kate

Very fun finishes. That table runner is really cute, such a simple, but really effective design. Wilbs looks really comfortable in his new bed.

Love the fabrics in the baby blanket (would make a nice blanket for Wilbs) and the runner! My eyes are blurry this morning – what are the utensils in that wonderful metal box on your runner? With the curtains, you also matched the outdoors. 😉 Although I can’t see your wrinkles, I’ve been fairly successful with throwing wrinkled things into the dryer with wet towels.

Wendy I love that fabric for the baby blanket, it is adorable. I recognized that jolly bar left over fabric!! Loved it then and still love it. Wilbs has the right idea, a cozy little nap.

  • Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting

Love the table runner, Wendy!!! It’ll be handy to have that baby minkee blanket some day down the line. Great curtains–great view! Yes, love how they coordinate with your minis!!!

  • karenfae

maybe try steam from the iron running up and down the fabric? I don’t know sometimes it is really hard to get wrinkles out of things. That is nice that they match your designs above the door. You have a nice view I don’t imagine you will want to shut the curtains often!

  • Vicki in MN

Moving things around definitely shines a light on UFO’s, now whether I finish them or not might be something else! Probably depends on the mood I am in, LOL. But you have two great finishes for sure. Feeling more creative in your new space??

  • Quilting is in my Blood

I’m so glad Wilbs likes his new bed. My cats tend to prefer cardboard boxes to the beds we’ve bought them! I love your improv squares above the curtains. Did I miss a post where you shared how you finished them?

  • Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl

Moving things around does prompt me to finish things or decide to pass them on to someone else. I’m sure the baby blanket will come in handy and find the right home, and great way to use up the jolly bars for a cute table runner!

  • Helen

The last two baby showers I needed gifts for both had nurseries in a woodland animal theme. So whether you knew it or not, you’re prepared with the latest baby trend!
The curtains and improv blocks… just perfect… Just perfect to be right there framing your quilting room view. If I walked into that room and saw that wall, I’d know it must be Wendy’s room.

  • Katherine Duquette

I love the view framed by your drapes. The wooden valance is a nice accent. Wherever your table runner land it will be a relished piece in their home. Happy fall.

  • Laura

Congrats on the two finishes…I bet that feels good! I agree with Eva…”Haha, live is to short to make any worry about wrinkels … not only in the curtains!!! Lol ..” Smart woman! 🙂

  • LA Paylor

if you wanted to pleat drapes they’d resist… maybe steam? That’s what project runway people do to straighten out fabric. Wilbs likes the little soft bed. I watch Griffon Frenchie videos of two cute frenchies. Haru his sister says, “if it fits I sits” and squeezes into the smallest inhospitable spaces! LeeAnna

Hi Wendy! I’m certain the wrinkles will hang out of the curtains, and what a happy happenstance that they match the improv blocks. Is Wilbs new cat bed heated? Or heated by his own body heat? Great idea having a baby blanket on hand – you never know when you need one (or your kids ask you for one). Finally, I love the table runner! Those colors are just perfect together and give off a calming vibe. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  • Diann@ Little Penguin Quilts

I love your two finishes! Good for you finding things to finish and *actually* doing it! That is a really pretty runner – I like those mellow colors. I’ve never bought a Jolly Bar, but enjoyed seeing the other things you’ve made with that shape of precut. The new drapes look great, and what a beautiful view you have out the window!

  • Joyfully Tracie

Great finishes! You’re so smart to have a cute baby blanket ready to give as a gift. The fabric is so cute! And the runner was a nifty idea for that fabric. It looks great. And you must feel pretty jazzed that your curtains look so nice with your artwork. Awesome! Seeing Wilbs curled up makes me want to curl up too. We’ve had a cool day with scattered showers. (I miss a fireplace.) We spent the day in Decorah just to beat the gloom, so we had a nice lunch out and coffee with a pumpkin bar for dessert later in the afternoon. It was a great way to spend the day. I hope you enjoyed some fun activity too!

  • The Morning Latte

That table runner turned out really great–a wonderful use for the spare jolly bars! (Very mod too!). Now the improv blocks–PERFECT!!!! I love to see a great display of little quilts like that (I just struggle to get one myself–sigh). Again, just perfect. Kudos to you!

Sometimes moving things help and sometimes I feel like I move one pile to another space and back again not making much progress. Love the table runner and the blanket – both fun projects. I think I will put a quilt on the frame on Sunday just to get something done next week and get this baby quilt I have been postponing made, too. Love the happenstance matching of curtains to the quilts!

  • Mari

I *love* the blocks above your patio door! If the wrinkles bother you, you might try steaming them. Otherwise, who notices? Minky blankets are so simple to make but are so useful, especially since today’s blankets are pretty much gauze. And the table runner is very cute too, especially that backing. Wins all around!
