Pieceful Life

I Like Thursdays #16

I like Thursdays #16, my last ILT post for 2019! Thanks for joining me. This week, my likes are all about family and holidays, of course!

Cooking and Baking Together. Our Christmas Eve dinner is our favorite appetizers. This year, it was homemade hot wings, a shrimp/cream cheese spread, brie cheese with hot pepper cranberry jelly, crackers and fruit. This year, I made myself a birthday cake, something I haven’t done in years. I decided to try an Almond Amaretto Cake using this recipe. It is a 6″ cake with three layers. I think it turned out okay for a new recipe and rusty skills.

Crafty Fun. When my daughter comes home, we enjoy a little shopping, a lot of talking, and always some fun crafting. This week we had some fun with polymer clay. We bought a few of our favorite colors, and got busy. I went a simpler route and made a funky little dish.

My daughter got a wee bit more creative, making some cute little gnomes. She took them out for a stroll in the snow.

Handwork. I did some crocheting, which I haven’t done in quite awhile. I learned a new stitch, the Herringbone Half Double Crochet, and made myself a cowl.

Books. I received a few books for Christmas from my kids.

I’ve already started reading The Bones of Paradise. I can’t wait to get to work on the Quilt Design book. The middle book is in the “good things come to those who wait” category. I’m itching to read it, but making myself wait!

I want to thank LeeAnna for keeping this post party going. Please stop over to her blog, read her post and the others as well – she has them all right on her page for your convenience.

I Like Thursdays #16 is a wrap. See you next year!

Wendy

Your Christmas Eve tradition sounds fun and yummy! I love the clay crafting you and your daughter did, too! Great job on your birthday cake – I hope it was delicious. It’s always great to have new books – I’ll have to check out those titles. How much longer do your kids get to stay? Sounds like you’ve had a great time with them!

Happy Birthday Wendy. That cake looks amazing. It is making me hungry. That middle book has a very interesting title and do tell us about the quilting book.

Your cake looks delish! Those gnomes…well they are too much fun! I haven’t crocheted in awhile and never did much more than basic stitches but there are some things that I think are faster crocheting than knitting, so I may go back some day. Fun times on your Thursday likes!
