Pieceful Life

I Like Thursdays #34

This I Like Thursdays #34 post is my fourth post this week. Phew. I’m not used to posting each day! I do have one more post I could do for tomorrow, but I might wait and share it on Monday.

Anyhoo, I’m here to share some likes that I’ve found during the past week, joining in with LeeAnna from Not Afraid of Color and the other friends listed on her site who are posting as well.

I Like Thursdays #34 - I like these little flowers I found while out for a walk - piecefulthoughts.com

While on the photo shoot for my vintage UFO, I saw these pretty little Johnny Jump-Ups along the path. I had to stop and snap a quick photo. They bring back memories of family hikes when I was a kid, exploring along creeks, minnow fishing and always wanting to catch the “granddad” and discovering the elusive Jack-in-the-Pulpits.

I Like Thursdays #34 - We snatched a few branches from our crab apple tree and put them in a vase - piecefulthoughts.com

BigJ surprised me with a few branches full of blossoms from our crab apple tree. The apples themselves are never very good, but the blossoms are beautiful. Of course, Wilbur had to sniff them; thankfully there was no tasting that I’m aware of.

I Like Thursdays #34 - I made lemon pie, yum! - piecefulthoughts.com

Speaking of tasting, I tried a new-to-me recipe the other night that I found on Pinterest. Arizona Sunshine Lemon Pie. The whole lemon goes into a blender, rind and all, along with a few other ingredients. Blend it, pour into a prepared pie crust, and bake. Oh my, it was quite good. If you try it – remove as many of the seeds as you can before putting the lemon in the blender. (Not all of the seeds blended well.) The other tip, cover the pie for the first half of the bake, then remove the cover for the last. The top of my pie got a little overdone. It’s an amazingly simple dessert!

I’m liking the improv project I’m currently playing with. One of the fabrics, Kona Pickle, is very difficult to photograph and get its true coloring in the photo. I’m not liking that thread in the photo; I somehow missed that! Haha!

So there it is, my I Like Thursdays #34. Each week I am trying to remember to observe things that I like or amuse me, and to snap a photo. It’s not something that comes naturally to me. So thank you for hanging with me as a ramble! I like that!

Share one of your likes from this week with me? I’d like to hear it!

You seem like a natural at snapping a photo of your likes! That pie sounds like something I should try…right;) Our apple tree is in full bloom, the plums were until the rain took off most of the petals. The pink crab tree is just beginning to open. The lilacs are opening too, ahhh the smells of spring!

Great likes! I’m enjoying your block of the day too and how you set up your photos of them! That lemon pie looks delish!!! Have a great day!

Last year my apple tree was covered in blossoms – this year not so much but almost every where I had blossoms I now have apples – I can’t remember the name of the apples though!! I have to try to find the information and put it on a tag LOL – I hope they are good this year. Your lemon pie looks delightful – I had never thought to blend the fruit in on though

That lemon pie sounds fabulous! I love lemon. I noticed lemon fabric and pretty lemon napkins this week. Lemon is on my mind. If only there were a single serving version because I’m the only lemon fan in our house. Maybe I can buy a lemon bar at Caribou Coffee…

I may actually have to try that Sunshine Lemon Pie. I’m all for simple AND delicious! I also enjoyed the sneak peak of your current improv project. The Kona Pickle contrasts so nicely with the grey and black. Have a great day, Mary.

The pie looks good. I made a cake once that went something like that, only it was made with oranges, rind and all. The orange rind gave us terrible heartburn, and so I’ve never made it again. It was good though, so too bad. Pretty flowers. I love apple blossoms.

There’s always some interesting things to like on your blog on Thursdays, Wendy! I didn’t know those are called Johnny Jump Ups. Those things thrive in our yard pretty easily! Interesting recipe, whole lemon in! I look forward to your improv!

I love johnny jump-ups! That reminds me of growing up, too – that’s what my mom called them. Wow, does that lemon pie sound good! Sounds strange to put the whole lemon in it, but looks like it worked, though. I have trouble accurately photographing several colors. I always wonder what my eye is seeing that the camera can’t catch!

Hi Wendy! I never think to bring blossoms into the house to enjoy – they are gorgeous. That pie!! Wow, it sure sounds ridiculously easy . . . and you’ve shared great tips. I may just need to try that. Kona Pickle looks fabulous – I always have a thread show up like that for my photos. HAHA! Welcome to the club. We’re in great company. ~smile~ Roseanne

Wendy those blossoms are beautiful! That lemon pie looks delicious. May need to add that to my list. This virus is killing me, way too much baking. My neighbors love it though, if I don’t share we will eat it all and we don’t need that.

  • Kathleen McCormick

Oh! I love the Johnny Jump Ups, and the apple blossoms are delightful. I am not surprised that Wilbur needed to inspect. Now, the improv is just looking delightful! Send on that recipe when you have a chance, it sounds delightful.

Oh, wow, fantastic likes. The jump ups and crabapple blossoms are so pretty. That pie looks delicious. And your piecing looks nice and clean. Ahhhh..

  • Colette

Your pie looks yummy! Love your little plus blocks! Swoon the yellow polka dots with the gray crosshatch! Oh I love your impromptu apple blossom bouquet.
