To Do Tuesday 30

How can it be To Do Tuesday 30 today – my 30th post on this linky party? Time flies when we’re busy sewing and creating, right?! I certainly wouldn’t have moved forward as well I have without Roseanne and Sue from Home Sewn by Us cheering me on each week, along with all of you. I enjoy catching up with you each week and celebrating our progress.

Here’s my list from last week, so let’s see what I accomplished:

  • Bind the Magnolia Mystery Quilt – maybe I can finish this by Friday? Done!
  • August Deli Geese blocks – Nope
  • Plan/design upcoming challenge quilt for The Endeavourers – Ideas are brewing
  • Prepare project for October blog hop – Nope

Well, one out of four is better than nothing, and the Magnolia quilt was a big finish. If you didn’t see my post, you can read about it here

I did say in my last post that I’d post photos of my August churn dash blocks. I decided to use aqua/teal this month. I had fun with the turtles, which is a 6″ x 12″ block (finished). The other two are 12″ blocks (finished). It’s getting more difficult to come up with colors to use each month!

I haven’t finished my August Deli Geese blocks yet. I thought I had, but realized that the July and August block patterns are identical, so that threw me off a bit. So I’ll get those done this weekend, hopefully. Here are my July blocks, once again.

I have made some other projects this past week. I finished a lap quilt that will be gifted soon, and I also finished a birthday gift, something a little different, but quite fun to make. I’ll show you both of these after they’ve been gifted. Here’s a little peek at the lap quilt, which you may have seen in last week’s header photo.

When those were done, I spent some time cleaning my quilt space, making more room for fabric, putting some back on the shelves, and then going through my bin with larger scrap pieces. This bin holds remnants from quilt backing, left over pieces from quilt tops that have been pieced, pieces that are too large for the scrap bin, but too small to go back on the shelf. I did pretty good, getting closer to being able to see the top of my dresser and getting things organized better so I could see what I have on hand.

Not surprisingly, this led to a little nest of squirrels. I found a stack of batik pieces that were left over from making the quilt in the above photo. Well, I couldn’t just put them away again. There they were, all ready to be pieced and cut and sewn into something. At this point, I have pieced a runner, two mini quilts and two placemats. I still have a few more pieces. So, rather than adding them to my UFO stack, I am going to add them to my to do list for the week. I’ll post on them soon.

So, here’s my list for this week:

  • Finish batik projects
  • Make pincushion
  • August Deli Geese blocks
  • Finish October blog hop project
  • Decide on challenge quilt design

I’m confident there will be more squirrels, too. I’m going to keep things a little loose and allow for some playing this week.

Have you been organizing too? Did you find projects you just had to stop and work on?

If you’ve stayed with me this far, thanks for reading my To Do Tuesday 30 post!

I love your Turtle churndash!!! What a great way to use that fabric! You accomplish so much sewing these days! I wish I had your energy!

cleaning up the sewing room and organizing some of the leftover fabric always takes so much time it seems – you got some accomplished

Those churn dashes are great – love the colors and the way you’re making them in different sizes and shapes. I think it’s so fun to find leftovers from a quilt project and be inspired to use them right away! I have a nest of squirrels like that in my sewing room, too. There’s never an end of ideas or things to work on, is there?!

That stretched out churn dash is interesting. I see a polka dot fabric in your peek that I had in my stash for a while. Your list seems ambitious from where I sit. My challenge quilt is finished except for hand-sewing the binding. My week is going to be focused on getting ready to travel.

It sounds like you were busy nonetheless. A to do list is only a guideline! Those colors in you mystery quilt are interesting. Can’t wait to see the whole thing.

I’m always so behind on my reading–I went back and caught up with the Magnolia and oh my gosh it’s gorgeous!! And the quilting–wow! Sounds like you still got things done even if they weren’t on the list. All that organizing takes so much time but it sounds like you’re getting lots of squirrels done and that’s awesome! Way to go and good luck on completing them! Looking forward to seeing those finish pics next week!

  • Quilting is in my Blood

Those turquoise churn dash blocks are great. And I love “You’ve goat this.” LOL Congrats on your organizing. I can definitely relate to finding treasures buried in my piles and get side tracked! Take care, Mary.

Good luck with your week! Always fun to find something in the heap. I need to do a quick reorder tomorrow before the cleaners come….honey do list today with vet and hardware store and installation of new medicine cabinet.

You did have a great week with finishing the Magnolia Quilt, making gifts and chasing squirrels, not to mention cleaning and organizing! Can’t wait to see what you accomplish this week! 😉

Hi Wendy! I sure do like the fabrics you are using for the Deli Geese blocks. I just want to pick them up and enjoy them plus now I can’t wait to see all of them together! Can’t wait to see the two gift projects as well as the squirrels that attacked you. Thanks so much for linking up this week. ~smile~ Roseanne
